If you have machines available, DJ Troopers (the newest version) is as good of a place to start as any. It has something like 600 songs, I think. If you are going to go for the PS2 ports Gold seems like a good choice (it has Shoot 'Em All, after all) with a fairly balanced songlist. The aforemention...

What kind of scoring systems did Thunderforce have before V? I seem to recall a time bonus for the overhead stages, but beyond that is it just survival bonuses?

I can't say I don't enjoy good graphics and music, but many times you get something gilded. A good example is Blazeon - great graphics and music, but the first couple of stages were so slow I just stopped playing. As for Odin Sphere, I quit playing when I realized the entire game was going to consis...

Hah, I hate bananas, too! I've also been getting more into fruit and fruit juice lately. It's so delicious! Canteloupe <3 I wish it wasn't such a pain in the ass to prepare some fruits. Kiwis and mangos seem to be the most time consuming.

I'm somewhat dissapointed no-one wanteed Gunball (I really thought Macaw might rally for this one), but Pang works for me. I would rather play Panic than memorize a bunch of stages, but no matter what I think Kaneda is going to whoop us anyways :P

Well, I wouldn't want to start if you can't play. I don't think anyone would mind waiting for you :? Here are a couple I've been thinking about: Marvel Land Sidescrolling platformer from Namco. Only one button (jump). Bonuses based on completing stages quickly and collecting point items. Pretty bare...

Oh yeah, of the ones you don't have listed you should give Brave Blade a shot. The scoring system is like a spin off of Twinbee, where you hit medals into the air with your sword until they reach maximum value. It's a little weird, but worth a try for sure.

edit: actually, the game isn't that ugly.

Armed Police Batrider: Possibly the most complex shooter ever made. Tons of selectable ships, each with four different versions to try. Add to that the fact that each character has unique shot, option, and bomb properties and you have an insane amount of variance between ships. Scoring is also very ...

Congrats! It's always a drag to try and play these games without the correct hardware. I've always been interested in playing Victory Road and Ikari III. Didn't some dude on SHMUPS say he beat Ikari III with a regular joystick? O_O

Has anyone ever played Assault with the twin sticks setup?
