Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I played the original JSR on Dreamcast. I Have JSRF, but somehow I can't get myself to play it, even though I know what an improvement it is. I guess I have other gaming priorities for the time being. Shiki II is pretty tough. And it's not helped by the fact that my picture blacks out randomly for a...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

So I hooked up the old Xbox, I mean Xbox 1, uhm...I mean Xbox Classic. Panzer Dragoon Orta — Damn this game is even better now than it was 15 years ago. Gameplay, presentation, music, all top notch and wrapped together in a glorious package. Still looks fantastic to boot! Castlevania: Curse of Darkn...

For sure, what happened to Quintet is one of the big mysteries/tragedies of Japanese video games. Nobody has any information.

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I never finished Hagane, despite being super-impressed by it initially (except for stage 1). I've never actually felt like playing it again after that. The biggest flaw for me when I think back about it is the first stage which is pretty terribly designed: just a long stretch of flat ground with bo...

Re: Repros

Then again, isn't it easy enough to get ISOs of these games? Definitely! But I guess people want the "games on a shelf experience". Probably the rights holders aren't even aware what he's doing, and probably doesn't matter much anyway. What annoys me more is that he takes a fan-developed ...

Re: Repros

The PCE Works stuff now has a logo that marks the games as repros, but in the past (it's the same guy who produced the Sapphire and Rockman fakes) there was no logo.

Did they finally release them uncensored? Always pissed me off they left the best part out of the English edition.

Re: [PS4/PSV] YU-NO

Wow, I don't usually go for boxed sets, as usually they just include a bunch of crap I don't need, but this one is amazing. All killer, no filler!

Been meaning to play the major C's Ware Games for a while, and will start with DESIRE.

Re: [PS4/PC] NieR Automata

Like all of Yokoo's games both NieR titles really shine during the second and third routes through the game. Basically, everything up to the first ending is just exposition and then he completely changes what the game is about. So you'll be rewarded by sticking through to the true end, I guarantee i...

[PS4/PC] NieR Automata

Who else is playing this? The first NieR was one of the most interesting games of the last generation in my opinion, and with Taro Yokoo joining forces with Platinum Games for Automata this pretty much turned out to be a match made in heaven. Really enjoying the combat in the game, which was one of ...

Re: Nintendo Switch

Checked out a friend's Switch yesterday, and I have to admit, I wasn't that impressed. Zelda is truly great, but there's not much else at the moment and even soon to be released games are technically not exclusives (Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2 which is just an update, not a real sequel). I guess launch...

Japanese auction: Mint game. Two pics zoomed in on a small speck of dust on the lower left corner. Description: "This is a used item with some signs of wear. If you're worried about the condition, please refrain from bidding." Western auction: Absolutely wrecked game. One pic from the abso...

WTB: Sonic & Knuckles, MD, Japan

Looking for a Japanese copy of Sonic & Knuckles for Mega Drive.

Should be in very good to mint condition. A challenge, I know, because of its flimsy cardboard packaging...

Will pay you nicely. ;)

Re: Japanese developed games not physically released in Japan

Thanks! Some great additions those! On a Japanese site it says Speed Racer may have gotten a limited release in Japan, although could be those were just re-imported units. Twin Squash and Ribbit at least have Japanese flyers. Where did you see that they weren't released in Japan? http://segaretro.or...

Re: Japanese developed games not physically released in Japan

Thanks guys! Over Drive (by Konami) This is a weird one, as in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTH9CUOq174 it shows a license notice "for use in Japan only", but maybe that was just for internal use by Konami. Anyway, I'm gonna add it to the list for now, along with some other n...

Re: Japanese developed games not physically released in Japan

Thanks, another good one! That game is actually part 3 in a sort-of-series starting with Kakefu-kun/Kid Kool on FC/NES and Psycho Fox on Master System (also in the above list).

I might separate the asset-swapped and/or reworked games from the main list.

I know what you're talking about, but I just raid some pachinko or soccer game as well. Every once in while somebody will sell a set of cart trays on Yahoo, so you could also keep an eye out there, if you need more than one.

Re: Japanese developed games not physically released in Japan

That's just Contra with the main character sprites changed. I don't think it's enough of a difference, tbh.
