Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Do you know if the Xbox had an official component cable? Pretty sure mine were official... Part of the reason I've not hooked mine up is I can't find mine... even though I know I've got them somewhere. JSRF is fun as shit... will definitely go through it soon. I knew the games industry was doomed w...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I had rancor send me an original J-Xbox (in pretty damn good shape too) so I could play my original Xbox games Orta: of course is in there. That shit was top notch... wonder if it'll ever be HD-ified. JSRF: If you've not played this, you're missing out. Gun Valkyrie: Never beat this... maybe I'll gi...

Re: Crazy Ass Auctions

There is something about having the original kit that the arcade operators got which is magic. Not for everyone, of course. Same w/ flyers. And some of the flyers get crazy.

Full Collection of Gamest 150,789 yen

EDIT: Added finish price.

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I recall an interview w/ the creator in Continue ages ago. Always wanted to translate it but never got around to it. One day, perhaps. Fujiwara? Do you have the Japanese text around here somewhere? Unfortunately I don't. I could look it up easily enough though, and those books are pretty cheap if y...

Re: Repros

What was Rockman on the PC-Engine anyway? Someone took assets from the FC version and made a homebrew version on the FC? I know I can look it up... but you have such a way with words. :D

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

That's a pretty serious 1CC. Congrats. I do remember this game being a bit of a whore, but there's quite a bit of memorization if memory serves. Pretty classic though. I recall an interview w/ the creator in Continue ages ago. Always wanted to translate it but never got around to it. One day, perhaps.

Re: Repros

The PCE Works stuff now has a logo that marks the games as repros, but in the past (it's the same guy who produced the Sapphire and Rockman fakes) there was no logo. Well I guess that's a step in the right direction. Totally basing all of this off of forum posts and whatnot, deception didn't seem l...

Re: Repros

Yeah, but that only covers you w/ the people that are on the up and up. Surely some of the repros have been infected the legitimate market as well, and some users are assume they have a legit one when all it is is a copy. It's quite unfortunate that you have to keep an eye out for this shit. I guess...

Repros

So, perusing around ye old Yahoo Japan Auctions (and Ebay) I've seen a lot of reproductions listed... most auctions list them as repros, so that's not totally shameful I guess. However, it's pretty obvious this is not even gray market. PC-Engine Works has you email them to get a list of their stock ...

Re: Crazy Ass Auctions

Sealed items are pretty much always ass crazy. Here's some craziness that the video game music community has been talking about: $1500 USD for the Super Donkey Kong 2 (Donkey Kong Country 2) soundtracks. They're not even sealed. And if I remember correctly, it doesn't even have the "mine"...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Which version are you guys referring to? I've always found the difference between normal and high level play to be mind boggling. There are some cool videos floating about on the interwebs, and one Playstation Magazine from back in the day had an append disc which had some extra stages on it. Always...

Re: Sharehouses in Japan

I went clubbing. I first shared a place with a friend from University so I got to meet a couple of his friends first, but honestly, we just went to the same clubs and met people. There are other meetups and whatnot as well. Can be tricky but it's not too bad. Also some places on Airbnb work like gue...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Yeah first time for me. Hmm, I don't think replaying the Shenmue games would be worthwhile. I can understand that you would want to freshen up your memory of the story and feel the atmosphere again, but considering they're pretty long, slow (and sometimes quite tedious) games, as well as the fact t...

Re: Sharehouses in Japan

but I'll have to try out a share house at some point too. Staying in one is like a gaijin rite of passage. I never did. ;) I just checked airbnb. Plenty for under $50 USD per night... and many under $40. If you really want that experience, got for it, but everyone I've heard of is horribly located ...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I guess a bunch of games are like that -- Shenmue (which I recently beat by the way, happy to have picked the Japanese language version which was surprisingly enjoyable and easy to follow) a Was it your first time through? I'm tempted to bust out the DC and play through these two games before Shenm...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

I've been on an SFC kick these past few weeks. I started with some DoReMi Fantasy, Magical Pop'n, then Demon's Blazon action. All were easy but fun, though Demon's Blazon disappointed me Are these originals? I have recently peaked on YJ and Ebay at some SFC classics. Magical Pop'n... fuck me in the...

Re: Sharehouses in Japan

What is your budget? I highly recommend Airbnb. I've found some decent places quite cheap. There was one in between Yoyogi Uehara and Komaba Toudaimae I stayed at for some 4000 yen a night or so. It was a humble room w/ a quite shit bed, but it worked for me. Just make sure you book in advance. So m...

Re: NHK TV fees

Technically, as long as the TV has an antenna, you are on the hook to pay. However, there is no legal recourse if you don't. (Japanese honor system). It's a pretty effed up system. They will make tons more money if they just somehow figure out how to deduct it automatically. However, as per before, ...
