Re: [SFC] Actraiser series

The first game is great. I think I played the second one briefly but can't remember anymore. I should check it out again.

Re: Nintendo Switch

Okay, I got my Switch (grey joycons of course). No problems with mine, everything works fine. I'm liking it a lot more than I thought. Zelda is wonderful (it really is worth it to buy a system just for this game), and the system itself is impressive when you hold it in your hands. I haven't hooked i...

Re: [PS4/PSV] YU-NO

Wow, I don't usually go for boxed sets, as usually they just include a bunch of crap I don't need, but this one is amazing. All killer, no filler! Been meaning to play the major C's Ware Games for a while, and will start with DESIRE. I have DESIRE for PS Vita preordered. Comes out April 28. Eve Bur...

Re: [PS4/PSV] YU-NO

As someone who has never seen a PS4 game in a store (yes, I live in Cave on Mars) do they all feature an orange band? Please tell me no. It's due to the CERO D rating. Those have an orange band. CERO B is green, CERO C is blue, CERO A is black, CERO Z is red. It's the same across all platforms (Xbo...

[PS4/PSV] YU-NO

I received my limited edition YU-NO for the PS4 last week. This a remake of the PC-9800 (and later Sega Saturn) visual novel by Team ASD (ex-CAVE producer Makoto Asada, et al) at 5pb. I played the Saturn version about 20 years ago, but didn't finish it; my Japanese wasn't very good back then. I was ...

Re: Nintendo Switch

I caved and bought one of these with Zelda. Should be here later in the week. ;)

Seiken Densetsu Collection pushed me over the edge.

Re: [PS4/PC] NieR Automata

The yu-no remake comes with a download code for the original pc-98 version. From what I have read, it has been updated with the remake's better navigation system. It is also censored, of course. Yes, you can choose the original soundtrack, also at least one arranged version. The LE comes with 5 soun...

Re: [PS4/PC] NieR Automata

I played the demo and thought it was good. I"ll pick it up when it's a bit cheaper. I played the first game on Xbox 360, but didn't finish it. Lost interest halfway through. I should probably finish it one day. Currently awaiting my limited edition YU-NO for PS4 to arrive from Amiami, so that's...

Re: Blaster Master Zero

Your kid has all the good stuff! ;) I wonder if he might like this game? The difficulty is a bit tame, and it's a great intro to Metroidvanias and classic pixel art.

Re: Blaster Master Zero

Yep, downloadable. Only ten bucks, or 980yen on the Japanese shop (that's where I bought it). I just finished the game, took me about 8.5 hours. Totally rad from start to finish. You can choose English or Japanese language in the options. I really recommend playing it on a New 3DS XL, the pixel art ...

Blaster Master Zero

I bought this the other day and I can't stop playing. It is REALLY good. I remember the original game back in the day but I could never beat it. This is a lot easier, but still tons of fun. I'm playing on 3DS for the crisp 240p and d-pad controls, but it's also available on Switch. I've played about...

Re: Nintendo Switch

The video shows all sorts of problems, though, not just software. The dock is poorly designed and the joy-cons have a range of problems (physical connection to the console, dropping the signal, etc).

Re: Nintendo Switch

I have read a lot of negative things about the console. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: -Save games are locked to the console and cannot be moved or backed up (Perhaps an anti-piracy attempt?) -No web browser or apps whatsoever. Very bare-bones UI. -Screen gets scratched easily ...

Re: On studying Japanese

It is possible to learn to read and write in Japanese by yourself with minimal resources, though it takes a lot of time and dedication. If you want to learn to speak and comprehend properly, you need to interact with a native speaker regularly. The best way is to live in Japan for at least a year an...

Re: Nintendo Switch

I'll probably get one later this year to play the new Mario, but so far I'm pretty "meh" on the system. I don't like the goofy motion control joy-cons and the system looks bulky and cumbersome. Zelda looks alright, but doesn't wow me. Last couple console Zeldas were awful, so I have low ex...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

I bought a lot of vinyl from 1998-2003 or so. Since then I've only bought a few, but I already got most of what I wanted (for pretty cheap) back then. I'm thinking of selling it all some day, a lot of the records are worth 10 times what I paid and I don't listen to them much anymore. Considering bas...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

I played a credit of Ketsui and a credit of ESPGaluda at Hey. I had tourists in tow, and getting to stage 3 of Ketsui they thought was amazing. Not bad considering I had not played in like... 5 years? A while, either way. Amazing how those games are a part of you, but leave easier than they come. I...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

I still buy games, but very few, and only new releases. I sell off most after I finish them. All the old stuff, I either no longer care or already played it and sold it off long ago. One exception: I still have all my Cave games on my X360, but I play them only a few times a year now, for the occasi...

Re: [SFC] Gaia Gensouki/Illusion of Gaia - Mariko Ohara Interview

I bought this at an Electronics Boutique store soon after it came out (in '94?) and thought it was pretty average. I think I finished it anyway, but I can't remember any more. Would be interesting to play it again and see if my impression is changed. Nice little interview, though, and I love the art...

I'm working my way through Stella Glow for the 3DS (Japanese version, of course). It's a killer game, one that really brings me back to the good old days of PS1/Saturn.

Re: Thread of Adventure

I got D for the 3DO for Christmas 1995 (along with Seiken Densetsu 3 -- not a bad Christmas!). I thought it was a good game at the time, though I never went back to it after I finished it. I wonder how it holds up today.
