Re: Huge ass fancy thread on Famicom action games

Got me a minty Jigoku Goraku Maru, love it. :) The jumping feels a bit twitchy at first (very light touch needed to get the lower jump), but it's easy to adjust to. Like Batman the levels are expressly designed around the character's agility and weapons, and they're a blast to zip through. I do wish...

Re: Huge ass fancy thread on Famicom action games

It's possible, but kind of ridiculous - you have to get and keep the invinciblity subweapon, then use it to blow through the spiked areas. This'll free up enough time to finish the stage if you're quick. I've not actually one-lifed the stage yet, but I totally would've using this method if I hadn't ...

Re: Huge ass fancy thread on Famicom action games

Playing Raf World at the moment, have just discovered Gun-Dec, Kage, Metal Storm and Holy Diver, and re-discovered Batman, 2010 SF and Jigoku Goraku Maru. I'd forgotten what a stable of first-rate action sidescrollers the FC has, I've definitely got a few more carts to hunt down now. Maybe some of t...

Re: Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

I love Ex-Ranza - it's one of the games that convinced me I needed an MD library, there's nothing else like it (that I know of, anyway). For me a big draw of mech sidescrollers is the sense of controlling a machine rather than a soldier, Ranza lets you control two at once! I've been playing Gun Haza...

Re: Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

I've been vaguely tempted to try out Valken 2, at least in emulation, since I love the series' machine designs and general atmosphere. But yeah, just thinking about a game with that name being a strategy title and not an ass-kicking mecha sidescroller is a downer. Bit like the third Keio Yuugekitai ...

Re: Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

I really love Leynos 1, having finally spent some time on it recently. Definitely basic and a little rough around the edges, but as a strategic action game the quality is evident. Although it lacks the sophisticated controls and presentation of Valken and Leynos 2, it actually has a major advantage ...

Re: Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

Thanks GP! That would make perfect sense, given the preceding game's storyline. The antagonist force in A.S. Leynos is a vengeful deep space exploration unit, abandoned/forgotten during a global war the protagonist mentions occurring ten years previously. Good to see Masaya included a link between t...

Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

Crossposting this from Shmups OT, as I am a curious cat. Thanks for any help! (spoilers, I guess - involves a hidden message after the credits) If you leave the game idling after the credits and final score tally, the short transmission below appears. I'd like to think it's a reference to Assault Su...
