Any progress on this? I see the DVD's listing has disappeared from the page.

Re: [AC] Puyo Puyo!! Quest Arcade

How did they fuck it up before? Although I'm not the biggest fan of the Fever mechanic, all of Sega's post-Compile Puyo games have been very solid and content-rich packages, with charming art and characters. And how the hell do you do a free-to-play arcade game? Compile Heart is actually making a ne...

Re: Mechanical games

Reminds me of when "playing Mouse Trap" as a kid meant setting up the trap over and over while ignoring the worthless board game attached to it.

Re: [PS3/PSV] Dragon's Crown

GKH is heavily dependent on its online PvP component, and I don't imagine there are too many people playing anymore. The single-player content is mainly intended as a way for you to train your party for multiplayer, so it's not very fulfilling. The story is given relatively little attention, and the...

Re: [DS/3DS] Monitor Output

Contra 4 is superb. Anyone who doesn't think so simply hasn't invested enough time to clear the first couple of stages. Wayforward brought together a bundle of influences from classic era Contra and worked out a lengthy, robust and fresh experience littered with wonderful set-pieces. It's obvious t...

Interesting to learn that Yumekobo's Karate Ninja Sho wasn't the only canceled ninja beatemup for the Neo.

Good article on the subject:

The Digital Death of Video Game Art

Anyway, those Data East ports really are no loss. They had glitchy sound from poor emulation.

It's good, but it can't compare to Gunbarich. :) The physics seems a little wonky to me, like it's more difficult to alter the angle of a ball's path than it should be.

Re: Lost Toaplan games?

Okay, I was unsure of what control method Ghox originally used, but I now see from the flyer that it was a combination spinner + joystick locked to vertical movement. It's sort of like SNK's Ikari Warriors/Bermuda Triangle sticks, but with a proper analog dial instead of that clicky plastic top. No ...

Re: Lost Toaplan games?

I read that interview, and it sounds like Teki Paki 2 wasn't even close to being finished when Toaplan folded, unlike Distopia. Must be why there aren't even any magazine screens of it. Guess I can give up on ever seeing that one.

Grim Grimoire only used one backdrop for the entire game. It still wasn't 30 minutes, though.

Re: Lost Toaplan games?

Holy shit, Distopia looks incredible! It would be a tragedy if it was lost to history. Sounds like DT7 needs to be dumped. Is the one at Try the only known board? Is there any info on Teki Paki 2? As broken as the original game is, it's great chaotic fun in short bursts. Interested how they might ha...

Lost Toaplan games?

I was looking on this Japanese Toaplan fansite , and saw listings for several games I've never heard of: - Dynamic Trial 7 - Enma Daiou/Enma Daiou DX - Power Kick (medal game) - Distopia - Teki Paki 2 None of these are even partially emulated. Were any of them actually released? Is there footage any...

Re: [PS3/PSV] Dragon's Crown

People who played the convention demo said it felt a lot like Odin Sphere with multi-plane movement, but I'm not seeing that at all in the trailer. Which is a very good thing, because Odin Sphere was a horribly sloppy and sluggish action game that had the nerve to punish you for doing combos. Not to...

Re: CA Production

A dubious honor if there ever was one. Genocide is a kusoge through and through. No idea why it seems to be fondly remembered by a lot of Japanese retro gaming fans; I'm guessing it has to do with the mecha design.

Re: [DS/3DS] Monitor Output

So anyone else with me on thinking that Contra 4 is the best in the series? Absolutely not. It doesn't hold a candle to the Famicom ports, Hard Corps, Shin Contra or Neo Contra. It's not even that difficult if you don't rush through the stages, and the boss designs are seriously lacking. At best, i...

Re: [AC] DoDonPachi Sai-Dai-Ou-Jou

An enlightening new Famitsu article. - The claims of a 16:9 mode were total BS; there's definitely nothing vertizontal. The sides of the screen are used for animated talking waifu heads in story mode, and that's enough to qualify as "full 16:9 support" in their eyes. - Thankfully, I was w...

Re: [ARC] Gun Master

I think I figured out Bloody Dance. Back, forward, jump does a dashing series of kicks enveloped in flame. I really don't see how you can deny the similarities to Gunstar. Gunstar Heroes also had a focus on melee attacks in conjunction with gunplay, including air kicks, slide attacks, and command mo...

[ARC] Gun Master

For a game that riffs so heavily on Gunstar Heroes, it sure is odd that Gun Master is so obscure. This was a Japan-only release developed by Metro, an otherwise unremarkable developer with almost no information about them. Their last credited game was Truck Kyousoukyoku in 2000, which Namco publishe...

Surprised to see Midway showing Mortal Kombat 4 there. Can't find anything indicating it actually got a Japanese release. The final MK game in Japan was Trilogy on the PS1 in 1998, just a short time later. Also surprised by the big showing for Jurassic Park.

Where did you get this info? I'll have to track down the source, but I definitely read that description in an article from a while ago. They didn't actually say that score won't matter, though it seems a given if the whole point of the mode is to hunt for achievement-like things with your friends (...

There is at least a demo of the original PC version.
