Re: Translation help please!

Thanks a lot. My wife has left Japan once her entire life and had no idea what that peace of mind part meant. She thought the seller was another gaijin... Anyway, from your help I think I understand it now. Connecting an X68K directly to an ''old'' Towns monitor is a straight no-no. However the ''ne...

When it comes to seamless action games with dialog scenes, Zenki FX on the PC-FX still is one of the best done imo.

Final Fight 3 Arcade Version

So Gfront now has an FF3 PCB for sale up on their site. Clearly a cheaply made bootleg, but still an interesting little oddity if nothing else. Scroll down the page about midway to find it.

Re: [SMS] [MSX2] Aleste

Yes I meant MSX2. And yes it was released later, but it is THE version Compile wanted you to play. If you are used to the MSX2 game, the SMS one feels very incomplete.

The MSX version is the original game by Compile. And also the version you should be playing.

"Vs. Boss" Games

Ok not sure what the proper name for this niche genre is, but I mean games where it looks like a fighter, controls like a fighter, but isn't a 1 on 1 vs fighter. Games where your opponents are like belt-scroller bosses, and usually in 2-player mode it's 2 players vs 1 cpu. Games I know of: Oni Dadar...

Re: Awesome Famicom/NES action games **MASSIVE ULTRA UPDATE*

You mean the Sharp vs Nintendo 3D Systems? No real difference, the Sharp one was just sold under their name to go along with the Sharp Twin Famicom units. Differences are just cosmetic (I have both versions). And yes they all work with every version of Famicom. The AV Famicom has the same 15pin conn...

Re: Zemmix: Consolized MSX

Depends on what you want to play. If you are going to get an MSX, Get a 2+ or Turbo-R. With a 2+ you can play almost everything. Turbo-R adds a few cool extra doujin games though such as Multi-Plex. I like Panasonic machines myself (the only maker of Turbo-Rs), but their 2+ machines WX and WSX (WSX ...

Re: Awesome Famicom/NES action games **MASSIVE ULTRA UPDATE*

Macaw, what's your take on Namcot Star Wars? Personally I find it to be one of the most under appreciated games ever. It has issues, but I feel like the game is designed around them, and the force powers allow you to cheat at parts you may find difficult anyway. And Vader turns into a giant pink sha...

Re: Zemmis: Consolized MSX

One-Chip MSX was released, but due to the team kind of imploding, very limited quantities. Hence, it goes for something like 20,000yen usually. Which is kind of stupid, because you can get a real 2+ for less then half that, and a good condition Turbo-R will only run you about 25,000 or so.

Re: So what do you play or collect...?

NES was my first, from there it was the mighty DOS 486PC next console was the Playstation. These days, I am pretty much done collecting. There is very little I still want that I don't have, and I really would like to downsize. But seeing as I'm still single it's on the "To-do" pile. If I e...

Re: Josh's Impressions on Obscure Doujin Game "Buster"

I threw the X68K version on my machine awhile ago. Nice graphics, but the game itself played way too choppy for my tastes. The remake looks quite a bit better though. Still the X68 has very few traditional scrolling platformers, so it's a nice addition if nothing else.

Re: Games w/ MIDI

The FM is a lot clearer. The MIDI is exactly the same of course. :) As for a setup, Roland/Eidrol makes some really nice MIDI Patchers. They have like 8 inputs, 8 outputs, and USB. You can send any input to any output with a the push of a button. They are around 20,000 and up, but the best there is ...

Re: Games w/ MIDI

Yes, this version actually runs very fast compared to both the MSX and X68k versions. The extra speed makes the game a lot more fun to play imo. Only thing is that it's a floppy disk game, but I have been unable to dump it. I've dumped other Towns floppies, but the usual methods don't seem to work h...

Re: Games w/ MIDI

Finally got the stupidly hard to find Towns version of Illusion City. And it uses LA (MT-32 family) MIDI like all other versions of the game. Though to be honest, the FM in this version sounds really badass, and I prefer it over the same old MIDI tunes used in all versions of the game. In fact I muc...

Re: Horror Visual Novels (Human Entertainment, Chunsoft, et

Played for awhile last night. I quite like the style, and the graphics are fantastic. My biggest surprise though was the music. I had always assumed it would use FM music and sound very similar to the PC98 original, but I was very wrong. It actually uses full redbook CD audio for music, and the arra...
