Re: Good to great Famicom games that don't cost a arm or leg

Wow the forums still alive :D .

Too bad GP because the Famicom has quite a charm as a machine with all its limitations.
But maybe someone else can chime in with recommendations.

I'm not looking for the Rockmans and Castlevanias here. It's more the 2nd and 3rd tier I'm interested in.

Good to great Famicom games that don't cost a arm or leg

Preferable japanese exclusives, but I open to every under the radar title.

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Dino Crisis 2 really benefits from it combo system and very fast paced gameplay. It's an action shooter and no survival horror game. The visuals are quite good but of course it will always be a PSX game. Forrest stages are dominated by greens and browns, but that should be expected. The game also wo...

Been playing Dino Crisis 2, and honestly I like it. Should have been a Dreamcast game though.

I've heard about a continuation print run of Neo Geo AES games.
Does anybody have more information on this?

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

On GameBoy I was finally playing 6 Golden Coins and it was a underwhelming experience. Super Mario Land is the stronger game and its linear structure lends it a better longterm appeal. The other game is Gradius 3 on SFC, which i also haven't played before. Yes, there is slowdown, but It is not the d...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Have you played Shadow of the Colossus yet? Those Team ICO games are all deliberately slow paced. I'm curious if your concern is with ICO (also in comparison to the other Team ICO games) or a more general preference in game pacing? I really like the Mario Galaxy games and would call them essentials,...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

But considering that about 90% of all the old console games are basically unplayable now (because they where never that good to begin with, got superseded by way better games, have some quirks that nobody will tolerate anymore) it still baffles me that even below average games in below average condi...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

Actually this year I turned to soundtracks as they are the only things arcade related that are still somehow affordable. Only 2 short months when they arrive

Name of a Japanese ghost story

Maybe somebody can help me find the name of a certain "ghost story" about a woman, who has to live in a cave at the beach. She's unable to come back to civilization and force to live off the creatures of the beach (eg. raw dead seagulls). Oh also her face is painted red. I would like to kn...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

That bundle appears to be a bit expensive to me. I rate the Playstation titles at maybe 7K¥ and Dracula X at maybe 12k¥ which leaves a lot of money left for the other games / books. And I don't really see that money - or maybe I'm completely off.

Re: Japanese developed games not released in Japan

When do you consider the port form FC-disk to NES different enough to be on this list? Kid Icarus for example has a different save system (obviously) but more or less is the same. Would this also count?

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

I don't know if you can call it actively collecting, but I still like to treat me from time to time with the odd game from the cheapskate bin or stuff I can rationalize as still reasonably prized and something I want for a long time like a Waku Waku 7 Box for Saturn for 2,200¥ (don't know if it's ac...

Are you talking about the Dex Drive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DexDrive? Mind you this was before USB and only works with the PS1 memory cards.

Those OutRun games are from Sumo Digital. That makes them British in my book.

What was the reaction to Kenju? And more importantly does it resemble the Tobal games in any way, or is it's gameplay more unique. With these closed off arenas it looks a bit like Segas Last Bronx.

Interesting read there about THQ. Sounds like the bit off way more than they could chew.

It's the THQ-story in a nutshell.

What about the Famicom Akira btw, was this any good or is it terrible, too?

Re: Jet Set Radio series

Iirc the tagging was reduced to a mere buttonpress from the more complex execution in the original (which I really loved back then). And overall the sense of urgency was somehow lost. The same thing that happend between Crazy Taxi and High Roller.

:o Congratulations.
I never expected stuff like this surfacing on the open on yahoo. I was always under the impression deals like that would only happen in a inner circle especially considering the arcade collector scene.
