Re: What happened to Treasure?

Was Iuchi officially a part of Treasure anymore? I thought he was just freelancing for the Ikaruga PC port but had actually left the company some time before that. Forgot to mention this, but their last post on Twitter was January 2016, which isn't very encouraging. 2015 was full of announcements an...

What happened to Treasure?

I was just talking with a friend about an upcoming vinyl release of the Gunstar Heroes soundtrack (beautiful packaging, but at the end of the day it's still a game soundtrack) and we were reflecting on our histories with Treasure's titles, I realized that I had not heard a thing from the company sin...

Re: [ETC] Try Tower Akihabara

Holy shit, that's sad. I didn't stop in there nearly as much as I did HEY, but once I figure out where I was I tried to pop in at least every other time I went to Akiba. It seemed like one of the handful of places that was still managing to hold its ground in the face of the total anime invasion. I ...

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

I'm not really sure--I've got the first volume in the first English Kodansha printing, which is pretty well done anyway, so I didn't bother with the hardcover for that volume. In any case, the version I have is definitely uncensored. I got the hardcovers for 1.5 Human-Error Processor and 2.0 Man-Mac...

Re: GP's music picks

I'm generally not a fan of mailing lists, but there have been several times where being on Ghostly's has clued me in to something that would totally fly under my radar. Bleep's as well.

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

I'm not sure if it's still going on, but apparently Funimation was doing a limited showing of the original GitS in select (i.e. big city) US theaters as a sort of promo for the live action film. That sounds like a much better potential use of ticket money. But hey, the new hardcover releases of the ...

Re: GP's music picks

I hope you didn't pay too much for yours, because Ghostly just repressed it. They don't often do represses, and a lot of their older vinyl was limited to something silly like 1000, so this might be a good chance to get an extra copy before prices go nutty. I need to give that release a couple of pla...

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

So the first official trailer (or so it says; I'm not sure what that other one was, then) is out, and it's...not as horrific as I thought? Batou looks weird, but otherwise, I wasn't immediately gripped by total loathing and revulsion. 2016 has been one mindfuck and shitshow after another, so I guess...

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

Isn't that the same one I posted? Watched with the sound off, but it seems to be the same link. It took me a while to find one that seemed "official," though--all the top links were some sort of weird edit that cut to the title logo (accompanied by the same annoying noise) after every sing...

Re: GP's music picks

I really like the Rez soundtrack, but I'm not sure I like it enough for a $75 vinyl set. One of my biggest shopping regrets from my first tour of Japan was not picking up a copy of the Gamers Guide to... soundtrack CD. I ran across it a few times, and I want to believe it was only something like 350...

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

It's not horrible, but it's nothing close to good, either. It looked like someone had transplanted Beat Takeshi's eyes into a creepy rubber mannequin. I guess all three volumes of the manga are getting definitive, hardcover, non-flipped & original Japanese SFX releases here in January, so there'...

Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

And he cried out in a loud voice, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

At least they're keeping the music for now?

Re: GP's music picks

Oh and hey: Rez soundtrack to be re-released on vinyl to coincide with Rez Infinite. This is a gorgeous package but I'm having a hard time reconciling the price. Something has changed on the website, too--at first there was mention of a 320kbps digital download as well, but now I don't see that anyw...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

I have pretty much stopped buying games and use most of my spending money on vinyl records. It's incredibly satisfying. Pretty much this. Credit-feeding through grad school along with learning about raising a 1 year-old leaves me with little time for games anymore, and music is something I can cons...

Re: GP's music picks

Incoming text dump. Tl;dr I haven't talked about music with people for a while and there are a few neat things that have been simmering in the back of my mind. The unexpected Tycho release was a nice surprise--I caught wind of it on Twitter before going to bed the other night, and of course had to g...

I'm kind of kicking myself for not saving up for a Framemeister before I left Japan, for the same reasons.

Re: GP's music picks

Wow, BOC haven't surfaced for remix duty in a long time. Video even looks like something they'd make. I should probably add Odd Nosdam to my list to check out eventually, especially since you've talked his work up before earlier in this thread. I hadn't even known Com Truise had shirts available on ...

Re: GP's music picks

Holy shit, it was down to $11.66 when I looked! I bought the FLAC on release and thought about picking it up on vinyl someday--the local record store has a decent selection of electronic music (including, unfortunately, the inferior 1972 pressings of SAWII , RDJ Album , and I Care... ) but this was ...

Re: Slightly Off Topic: Descent Underground

I was going to come blazing in here to talk about how you can still buy the original three Descent games on GOG.com, but not anymore, apparently. Seems that Interplay has kindly been neglecting to pay royalties to the developers (who are still around!) for like 9 years, so Parallax terminated their ...

He was so terrible! But the with the whole film in bad phonetic English, the end result was so surreal anyway that I didn't think much of it at the time.

I got used to that in Japan, but on the rare occasion when a YouTube video is region-restricted in the US, I am absolutely stunned.

Re: Japanese Film (Live Action)

I've got a somewhat love/fear relationship with Miike. Dead or Alive and Ichi the Killer are hilariously over-the-top, but Audition was deeply disturbing. I'm not sure I'll ever have the guts to try Visitor Q . But he's a bit of a goofball as well, and Sukiyaki Western Django is a really great send-...

Re: [PS2] PlayStation BB Unit (PS2 Hard Drive)

Totally necroposting, but I couldn't get on to the forums for about a month for some reason. I've got a hard drive in my PS2, but I use it in conjunction with a hacked bootloader that runs from a memory card and loads some small HD loader (also on the memory card, if I recall) to load games directly...

Yeah, I'm a little tempted but it's not calling to me the way the Akira release was. It does help that Amazon has the digital soundtrack available as well; I may just bite on that and call it good.

Some new Casino Versus Japan! https://attacknine.bandcamp.com/album/damaged-errata Also this Record Store Day was super disappointing, but as I was browsing Bleep to see if I couldn't drown my sorrows in mailorder, I spotted this gem. The same mysterious (potentially unofficial?) Binyl label the rep...
