Re: Zyclunt & Genocide

The image works perfectly for me in DOSBox. And I appreciate providing folks like myself the chance to try the definitive version of the game out, Macaw. I played Blade Warrior ages ago but after replaying Zyclunt, my feelings toward the game have actually lowered. I'm appalled how much blocking, ab...

Re: Looking for title: Obscure Sega CD or Saturn RPG Guyver-

You're thinking of A-Rank Thunder, which is indeed for the Mega CD and uses a similar engine as the earlier Riot RPG, Silky Lip.

Re: Irem

Irem will always be known for R-Type but it has made little that I really enjoy. Its shooters are classic, but not necessarily personal favorites. Irem has some decent beat-em-ups, but nothing that anyone quotes as belonging to a top 3. I also has a few unmemorable sidescrollers. You couldn't pay me...

Re: PSP Vita

I wonder if Ridge Racer is being pushed back in the US to add additional features. Amazon moved its release date for the game to 6/30. GameStop has a more reasonable 3/20. Either way, there wouldn't be much reason to move it besides to improve the game. Honestly, the game mechanics themselves look g...

Re: PSP Vita

Same here. Or at least a good bundle. The current bundles only offer small memory cards. There's no point getting a smaller card when I'm almost certain I'll eventually overfill and be forced to buy a larger card anyway. And I'm still waiting to see whether the 3G version offers any special features...

Re: SEGA

In total sales, sure. But as we know, that's not an entirely fair comparison with Nintendo's continuing support of the NES at the beginning, the SNES's late start, and the SNES's late momentum. Sega was still playing catchup to Nintendo the whole time. Only the brief in-between period between the en...

Re: SEGA

I feel that the mid to late 80s was when Sega was most dominant. Up until Final Fight, Sega ruled over arcades with its Super Scaler games, such as OutRun and Space Harrier, which looked heads and shoulders better than anything else around. In an era when people wanted to play those games, Sega prov...

Ah, there was a special collection of all the booklets after the 20th one that came in a black sleeve but it's apparently not a common item. They're fun reads though.

Re: The rare & awesome shit thread...

I plan on buying the inevitable HMZ-T2 with 1080p support and any design issues worked out. I think the price is pretty reasonable as long as the sound quality is decent.

Re: Today's marketplace for yesterday's games

Ugh, I can't believe I have to perform due diligence on Amazon marketplace vendors now. I know they can't be trusted when placing orders for valuable items such as fragrances and bags but it looks like even in the world of cheap video games (<$15), a rating of 97-100% doesn't guarantee that the sell...

Man, looks like I'm not far off from GP today. :) Totally forgot that KOTM supports coop as well.

On the plus side (depending on how you view things), I remembered that the original Rise of the Robots is a boss rush.

Re: Co-op Boss Fighting Games

Just about every character in Death Brade is selectable and there's no 2-player coop so that game doesn't fit in either of these lists. We could include a separate list for fighters focusing on monsters, but I'm not sure anyone cares about them. Primal Rage is dead, every dinosaur fighter has bombed...

Re: Co-op Boss Fighting Games

What exactly is a vs. boss fighting game? King of the Monsters 1-2 would be what I'd typically think of—a fighter where you can't play as the majority of opponents—but then games like Street Fighter and Garou Densetsu would also apply. Anyway, here are some more: Boss rush fighters: King of the Mons...

Since Soulcalibur II used to be hot stuff, shouldn't it still have a decent fan base? Anyway, I hope the stream is archived; Rainbow Edition should be a blast to watch.

Yeah, I'll be buying the hinted-at home version assuming it's the same (probably not if it's different; 3D and top-down Contra doesn't appeal to me). I'm curious now if the rumored 3DS Contra will also be a port.

Re: Upgrade to phpBB3

Really? Gray versus light blue? Yeah, it's not easy for the eye to distinguish between "blue gray" (actual crayon color that's close to the color used for unread stuff right now) and gray on a sky blue background, at least for small icons displayed in 900p or 1080p. Your name appears in r...

Re: Today's marketplace for yesterday's games

I think most of the expensive NES games are special variants and limited quantity games that play very poorly. Last I checked, Mega Man doesn't approach 3 figures unless it's new (in which case there's a frenzy). Mega Man actually has one of the most hardcore series followings, which makes getting g...

Yeah, another system was to be expected from Taito after the latest incidents. Nobody would design another game on the Type X2. But beyond security, I hope that the Type X3 will reverse the unsettling recent trend of degrading arcade hardware. IMO, that arcade hardware is now inferior to console har...

The worst thing is that casual JP gamers are totally suckers for somewhat inferior handheld ports so it'd be silly not to take their money. It's a great concept that I really wanted to like but the chart is missing too many official controllers for my tastes (while including some random 3rd party stuff). From a glance at the controllers included, the poster seems to be from the perspective of a Euro-centric gamer.
