Sounds pretty interesting. I just hope it's not for the DS. PSP would be OK. X360 or PS3 would be fine too. Just no DS (or Wii) please.

Nice choices, GP. I'll have to check out that Hammock record, I just have their 'Kenotic' LP, which is pretty good.

thejapanshop.com is the best. About $50 for the Intermediate or Advanced books. Shipping is cheap too (I got 2 books and it was only $6 for priority mail to hawaii).

You may be able to find cheaper used copies on Amazon or ebay, at least of the Intermediate one.

Just got this today, and after a quick browse through it looks to be quite good. It has a good section on metaphors too.

Yeah, 4AD still pumps out records, and has put out some great stuff over the years: Dead Can Dance is a fave of mine, along with Lush and Mojave 3.

CAVE is doing the port and publishing it. So expect the quality to be similar to the Ibara and Mushi ports they did.

These 3 ports will most likely be region-locked. Just get a JP X360 (that's what I did).

I've only played about an hour of Brave Prove, but it has really amazed me. It plays (and looks) very arcade-y. I hear it's a rather short game, but I like that in an action-RPG.

Brave Prove for the JP PS1. Awesome 2D action-RPG by DataWest. Probably the best PS1 game that no one really knows about. It has fantastic sprite animation and a deep fighting system to boot. Tengai Makyou 4 for the JP PSP. Great remake of one of my favorite RPGs. I'm having a blast playing through...

I never finished Tales of Phantasia. Game was a bore for me and about halfway through it I just turned it off and never went back. Jeanne D'Arc is very charming. Easy to pick up and play with an entertaining story. I played it and finished it on a trip last christmas vacation. But if you're looking ...

On the second page the first box says "ilum", the second one says "cwumintung lwokpen hwo". I'd have to dig out a dictionary to see what it means.

I can read modern korean (meaning I can transliterate the script on the fly), but I only understand Korean from the 8th-16th centuries. Not sure if I could help here.

EDIT: stumbling through the site, I got to this registration page

It's not a book you sit down and read. It's mainly useful when you come across some weird construction in the language and can't find it anywhere else. It'll be in there.

This is the best grammar of modern Japanese. It has everything in it. Can be hard to read at times, but there's nothing else even close to it in terms of comprehensiveness. And it's cheap at $47.

I may be done with Deathsmiles. I'm really close to selling it. I've 1CC'd it with each character, and Canyon is frustrating as hell. I could go for more score in the non-canyon route, but honestly I'm not too keen on it, because your score is based mainly on perfect timing in one or two spots in mo...

Maybe Deathsmiles (unless I get good at it in the next month, haven't played it in weeks though). I don't see you schooling me in any other game I own.

Thanks for the recommendation, EOJ. I'll check that one out next. New game out this week: Nandoku Kanji DS: Nandoku - Yojijukugo Koji Kotowaza I'm pretty amateur when it comes to those 4-character phrases so this might be useful. Nazotte Oboeru also has a variety of tests on 4-character phrases. So...

Re: Japanese Learning Game Thread

Nintendo DS Nazotte Oboeru Otona no Kanjirensyu Kanzenban This is the best one for practicing and learning kanji. I whip it out now and again and the way it's set up is brilliant. Lots of different modes included too. I'm actually remembering the stroke order and kun/on readings of some characters ...
