Re: [AC] DoDonPachi Sai-Dai-Ou-Jou

The 360 version has a release date: May 30. There's also been a ton of updates to the site. They probably got Aya Hirano on the cheap, since she had a scandal and is now seen as a slut. Also, I think the loyalty of the once-rabid Haruhi fanbase was tested a few too many times. Microsoft Japan is bac...

Re: New Side Scrolling action titles

Gunhound EX was released for PSP today.

I feel that Super Cyborg game may just be ripping off Contra a leeeeeetle too much.

Re: [PC] Gunhound X

Game's out for PSP. NCSX seems to have delayed my shipment.

Apparently it's identical to the patched PC version, with the addition of full voice acting. The original version is not included.

Re: Mad Motor (1989, Mitchell)

Can't find the link, but there was an interview where someone from Mitchell said that they would have no chance in court against PopCap. They have too much money; their lawyers would be too good and American courts are biased towards American companies (look at Apple's performance in the patent laws...

Re: Mad Motor (1989, Mitchell)

I feel sorry for Mitchell. PopCap made a hell of a lot of money on their PuzzLoop ripoff Zuma that they never saw any of. Tried out this Mad Motor game. Awesome graphics, characters and sounds, but I can see why this one didn't make it past the loketests. The mechanics are too limited; they just don...

Yikes. As far as third-person shooters go, this makes Damnation look like Binary Domain.

Interesting tidbit: the original American printing of Strider 1 & 2 had the games on the wrong discs.

That truly is an impressive find. Almost looks like it could have been a lost early nineties Namco arcade game. Hope it gets cracked soon.

I mentioned Last Survivor at the beginning of this thread...think there's any way we'll ever be able to emulate the 8-player, four-cabinet link up system?

Re: Beatdowns in Techno City: The Denjin Makai Series Thread

Did some DMII multiplayer today (Skullbyule + Tulks). Cooperative combos are great fun. It makes things a good deal easier, including the bonus stages. At certain places where health items drop, the game will give you two of the same item if you're doing 2-player. It seems there's a limit to how man...

Thanks! The Gamefaqs guide says that Tulks' head turns into that of a Japanese wrestler during the kick super, any idea which ones?

SpikeOut got an Xbox version. I'm not sure if it's actually a port or an original game in the series, though.

Re: Beatdowns in Techno City: The Denjin Makai Series Thread

I love how every character uses their own unique weapon for the shooting galleries. Any idea if Stretchy Pink Boss is male or female? Tulks actually has two projectiles, a fire and a lightning one. (There's ice attacks too, do some enemies have elemental weaknesses?) The command for the former is ba...

Re: Beatdowns in Techno City: The Denjin Makai Series Thread

Just found out about the alternate stage selections! Hard to tell with the emulation problems. Smashing things up in Lilliputan land is awesome. The Wild West/graveyard/space shooting gallery bonus stage is a work of art. Too bad that all the bosses are recycled, though. I guess another area where t...

Re: Beatdowns in Techno City: The Denjin Makai Series Thread

The alligator head enemies that spit eggs are probably my favorites in a belt scroller. Why were WinkySoft's talents always wasted on Super Robot Taisen and licensed anime crap? With a better budget, they would clearly have been good enough to go up against Capcom/Konami/Taito/SNK in the arcade mark...

Re: Beatdowns in Techno City: The Denjin Makai Series Thread

Been playing Guardians/DMII seriously for the first time. It is the only belt scrolling beatemup that has left me fully, truly satisfied, where I can't easily think of anything else they could have done to make it better. (Besides perhaps making the useless characters less useless, and toning down S...

Re: Horror Visual Novels (Human Entertainment, Chunsoft, et

Nothing against old graphics. But I think most of us can agree that early 2D has aged a whole lot better than early 3D.

Torico's 3D FMVs definitely look better than the Dream Mansion games, though not as good as Enemy Zero.

Well, it makes it look like something is getting done, without you having to fight the NRA lobbyists or do anything else that might be the least bit controversial and jeopardize your re-election.

Re: Time Crisis has vanished from my state

That arcade in NH just got Deadstorm Pirates. I already own it on the PS3 Time Crisis collection, but it's nice to be able to use the nautical wheel for the QTE/sailing sequences instead of spinning the Move in the air. The cab also has some incredible styling behind the seats. On the other hand, yo...

Re: Horror Visual Novels (Human Entertainment, Chunsoft, et

Reminder that Corpse Party: Book of Shadows is out in English on the US PSN today.

I've looked at Torico/Lunacy, but the 3DCG characters are laughably bad looking, like something out of an early 3DO title. Is the game interesting enough to make up for it?

Re: Horror Visual Novels (Human Entertainment, Chunsoft, et

Linda Cubed on the PS1/Saturn is actually a remake of the PCE-CD game with new animated FMVs. The game is very much a proper RPG, not a visual novel, though. Worth mentioning that the title is an obvious reference to the Blue Hearts song. Echo Night 2 wasn't localized, but its PS2 sci-fi spinoff Neb...

Silent Bomber is another good PS1 game you can add to the list. It's very score-focused, with a multiplier system, and most definitely arcade style.

Re: 3D arcade style action games

God Hand is probably the best 3D beatemup out there. It flopped when it was originally released, but is now pretty well known and highly regarded in the West, and was re-released on PSN. There are some cheap exploits that can completely break the difficulty for certain enemies and fights (Drunken Tw...

Re: Horror Visual Novels (Human Entertainment, Chunsoft, et

I've played Divi-Dead, but only with the questionable translation. At least the English script isn't as bad as Hirameki's VN translations, and I liked how Ranmaru talks like a total jerk. I enjoyed it a lot, though I wasn't fond of the parts where you aren't told where to go next and have to mindles...
