Re: The emulation thread...

Yeah, the quality of the intro music is sky high, which is what basically doubles the WTF effect.

Re: The emulation thread...

No that's not it. There's no music at all in the first stage and the sound effects like sword slashing keep looping for several seconds after you've used the weapon. I tried to run it with another emulator and it seemed to emulate the sound decently but had graphical emulation issues instead. Vixen ...

Re: The emulation thread...

Really? I've never heard that about the SFC. Do you how the sound differs depending on the model?

I guess I should just pick one up next time I'm in Japan, but I was really so surprised at how bad the sound was in Psycho Dream...

Re: The emulation thread...

Can't believe it Shou... This calls for a celebration! Completely unrelated to the current discussion, but anyway, I've been meaning to properly sit down and play Psycho Dream after all these years, but there are tons of sound issues when I try to run it in ZSNES. It can't be that the game hasn't be...

Look and feel of an Arcade game from 1985-1987 6 challenging levels, with secrets 14 bosses and more than 40 enemies 50 minutes of gameplay 4 different endings based on merits Backgrounds, characters and creatures based in medieval myths from Spain and the rest of Europe 50 minutes, oh yeah! Re: I've had enough and am selling most of my stuff

Sounds like a healthy decision. I sold my cabinets and arcade games and almost all console games years ago because I've been moving around so much. It was just too much of a hassle to bring everything with me, and it was worth too much money for me to just leave in my parent's house in my hometown. ...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

There's a bosh-rush in what I believe is Actraiser 2's last stage, and that made me give up. I've grown sick of cheap rehashes like that in games, but overall it's a very worthwhile experience. Currently playing Nosferatu, which is yet another great SFC title barely mentioned here. Just read this mi...

Re: The Official WTF are YOU playing right now thread

Actraiser 2. Has a unique, suspenseful atmosphere and some of the best platforming action I've ever seen, with tons of cool moves that you can use in creative ways. I've searched the forum and it hasn't even been mentioned once? It's a bit frustrating to learn the controls which is why I never got i...

Re: Denshi jisho

Just thought I'd report back what I finally picked up. I found a shop in Akihabara that where the staff seemed to have a lot of experience with foreigners studying Japanese and their needs when it comes to these devices, which was good since they could pick one out for me that didn't have a bunch of...

I had this piece of hardware demonstrated to me by this guy last month:

Winds have done graphic work for many different companies over many years, including Masaya. Satoshi Nakai worked under their label when designing Gynoug's graphics.

Always wondered about the arcade version of Captain Lang. I was hoping it would be "richer" and better looking than the Mega Drive game, but if it was a cheap board I guess it must have used the same hardware?

Re: [X68K] Are these games undumped?

Can't really grasp what's going on in Overdriver but it looks really unique, and with excellent pace and a cool atmosphere! I only wish the graphics were better. Do you know when it was released? And holy shit, The Ground Warriors looks so ambitious (but also pretty damn boring). Thanks for posting ...

Ahhh OK. I thought the 20-30.000 was for the software, the actual dictionary content, only.

This was pretty much what I wanted to hear, that the other solutions don't compare to a good denshi jisho. But man, 20-30.000 yen for those dictionaries a piece? Were they included in the 48.000 jisho you got?

Re: Assault Suits Valken Translation RQ

Doesn't Ex Ranza (Ranger-X's Japanese title) play just as well with a three-button controller? X and Z are really only used for controlling the bike, and I can't remember that ever becoming a strategic necessity at all? Stage design is a bit lame since in most stages you can always go back and regai...

Thanks a ton Greatsaintlouis. I don't have a DS and never wanted one before, but that definitely sounds like a good deal. I can probably get a second-hand system from a friend, or cheap in somewhere Japan this summer. Here's a rather annoying but still appetizing demonstration if anyone else is inte...

Seems as if I draw a kanji correctly apart from the stroke order it usually shows up further down among a couple of alternatives. For now at least, this is great. I have Kodansha's paperback Learner's Dictionary as backup, anyway.

Thanks GP. No you're probably right. As I said, people keep telling me to get a dedicated device, but they haven't really been able to justify it when I ask them about the advantages over smart phone solutions. I don't think programs you mention are availiable for android, but I found one called aed...

Re: Irem

Irem's connection with Last Resort is something I've always wondered about too (because of its darker tone, it's the game that should have switched names with R-Type Leo, after re-transcribing the title to Lust Resort). Just gave R-Type III a fair chance, and it's currently my favourite Irem game. W...

Re: Irem

Oh and another Irem game I've been playing lately is R-Type Leo. Which is really cool too, but weird. Its theme is such a crazy contrast to R-Type and R-Type II that it basically feels like you've stumbled upon a beach resort in the middle of a nightmare (you fight the first boss against the backdro...

Re: Irem

Never too big a fan before but... I've been playing R-Type II for the past two weeks or so, which just leaves me breathless. There were a lot of other cool horizontals released at that time, but I can't think of any one shooter that's as well-designed as this one. Does Taito's, Capcom's, Konami's or...
