Re: Akira for MegaDrive

Found some more info here: http://segaretro.org/Akira Akira is an unreleased Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD video game based on the 1988 film of the same name, once set to be published by THQ. Akira is one of the more notable video game absentees of the early 1990s, as when THQ acquired the licens...

Re: [ETC] Try Tower Akihabara

Assault is such a blast to play, wish I could go there now! Whoever is in the area, don't miss out if you haven't tried it!

By the way, was there ever a sit-down/deluxe version of the Assault cab? I suppose not?

Re: Akira for MegaDrive

Yeah someone posted it on Facebook a while back. Really grateful to able to see a video of it, though it certainly looks pretty dodgy in that state. The 3D effects are cool though, and it's really impressive how much content (graphics and different game modes) they seem to have been planning to incl...

Re: The emulation thread...

I so feel you on that GP! I also felt there was a sense of mystery to exploring Japanese games when I started importing games in the early 00's, and there were tons of games you basically couldn't find any information on, but which is now much more widely availiable. I think for me it's also very mu...

Re: The SRPG thread

Thanks for the replies! I will definitely try all of those when the timing is right, and will probably pick up Front Mission next time I'm shopping for games. I'll make sure to report back with my impressions, too!

The SRPG thread

I'm running out of 16 and 32 bit action games to play, eheh, so I've been slowly branching out and started to play other genres. I'm currently enjoying Fire Emblem: Seisen no keifu a lot (roughly half-way through I think); some of the units get overpowered quickly which takes a way much of the tacti...

Re: The emulation thread...

Oh my god, DT7 really looks amazing (and how cool about the link system), but all of the above screenshots really get me going. Great work. Too bad about Distopia though. :(

I posted that above, CIT -- I love it too! Tanin no Kao (Face of another) by the same director is also very good!

Re: Jet Set Radio series

Ok yeah I remember I was happy at first when I saw the game had been simplified in that respect, because I didn't enjoy executing those maneuvers myself, but I definitely agree that they added a certain stress to the action that made it more enjoyable overall. So yeah, you've probably got a point th...

Re: [FC][SMD] How to tell if a game is a reproduction?

Yeah I saw the Capcom logo on your photo, I can't actually remember if my cart had that; I pointed out that specific detail because I imagined it would be difficult thing for bootleggers to reproduce, but who knows, maybe it's not much of a hassle if you have 3D printer and the right materials? On s...

Re: [FC][SMD] How to tell if a game is a reproduction?

Wow, I never knew bootlegs were much of a problem, except for maybe with arcade boards and some of the most sought after CD games (like Sapphire)? Rockman has a carved out Capcom logo on the actual cartridge... I don't understand why or how bootleggers could go to such lengths for that game or any o...

In what way did you feel it was watered down CTN? I'm not questioning this statement, but curious to know more!

Re: Jet Set Radio series

I don't know, I was totally blown away by the first game, had a lot of fun with it, and I do consider it one of the must-plays of that era, but I also felt that the concept did get old pretty quick. Despite how awesome it was at first, I got tired of the first game before even finishing it. I think ...

Re: [SAT] Panzer Dragoon Zwei

Got this recently, but I have already sold it. I agree about the original being a better game overall, what a ride! The atmosphere in the opening episode, as well as the sheer speed at which you move through Episode 4 totally blew me away. Zwei is not bad, but It didn't make nearly as big an impress...

Re: Thread of Adventure

How do you guys like D no Shokutaku? I got the SS version last year, tried it briefly, and loved atmosphere and how everything plays out in real-time (you can't save your progress, or even pause the game), but was too busy at the time to continue playing it. Definitely gonna give it another shot nex...

I hadn't noticed, too bad! The state of Japanese film today is apparently one of the main reasons -- that's sad to hear.

Re: Japanese Film (Live Action)

I haven't seen a lot either, but I always recommend "Fukushuu suru wa ware ni ari" (1979). Synopsis from Criterion: A thief, a murderer, and a charming lady-killer, Iwao Enokizu (Ken Ogata) is on the run from the police. Director Shohei Imamura turns this fact-based story—about the seventy...

Interesting, just realized the Aquario OST was actually released last year... Apparently the composer had DAT recordings of it.
