Re: So when did NAOMI bootleg ROMs start making the rounds?

His Taito G-Net conversion is also quite a feat.
Besides the ability to play games from compact flash cards, he also converted G-Darius to be played on the G-Net Hardware.

I really respect this ingenuity.

Re: [AC] Kaneko DOX-Q

People like him give probably very colorful interviews as opposed to people working in the more corporate structure of games development.

Considering the amount of home-computer programming he did, don't you think DOX-Q is also heavily influenced by the early Thunder Force games?

If this is his portfolio it's quite interesting. Lots of x68000 work but also Maizinger-Z and Nightmare in the Dark.

Not just for Wii, also for the DS.
If it was a port, it was definitely enhanced with a story-mode. But i puzzles me, too.

I think it's a great visual achievement for it's era and for the genre in general. However my problem is the gameplay - it's just not that exciting.

Re: Irem

Nanao sold off the old Irem label to Yubis, an amusement machine distributer, which is why they established the new company (not sure why Yubis wanted to buy it as I don't know what assets the old Irem owned). Wasn't Irem in it's earliest incarnation a minor AM distributor? So I guess Yubis bought ...

I'd love to see more pictures as my arcade experience is limited to my setup in the livingroom and I have to resort to the vicarious bliss of pictures of gamecentres.

The skyrocketing of the prices could also be attributed to Websites like gamengai or hardcore gaming 101 which are helping in spreading the word when it comes to rare / obscure games. I have actually once met a guy who told me that he is buying his games on reccomendation on what is rare or expensiv...

I think it really depends on the gaming platforms. I see a higher demand for all things famicom than 10 years ago. On the other hand are the prices for the 32-bit platforms decreasing (most STG are now less expensive than at the beginning of the 2000s - or I am better informed) as well as all things...

How much is Mother 3 worth?

I've seen this game go for considerably high sums on eBay.
Is it really that expensive now?

Only the first S&P has a truly ground-based gameplay.

The Wii game is like everywhere (bought it only a couple of weeks ago and had no time for a proper play) with the character flying like in Space Harrier.

What do you consider Cabal-type?
Character movement on a single plane?
A very restricted control scheme?

Personally I can't make that much of a difference between Sin and Punishment and Cabal.

The scrolling is smother than on the Saturn and the graphics are better.
The special edition comes afaik with a microphone - therefore the gameplay is "enriched" on the 64.

Get Densha de Go! in the SE package aswell as Kirby 64 and Rakuka Kids or whatever it is called from Konami.

Also the Sumo games should be worth a laugh or two.

No, I don't, sorry. If you can improve the experience by using non-orthodox hardware, I don't understand why you "should" not do it. Because it feels wrong? Japanese cabinets (the standard ones in the vein of Astro City, I suppose you're thinking about) have well-known issues regarding their contro...

:o I think i#ve started quite a discussion Any "original software" for a handheld you can think of could be much better on a TV system. That's a fact which leaves no room at all to be questioned. Hence the drama. Yes they could be better and i don't want to argue about that. I, too would be very hap...

If there is a game designd especially for a handheld system like Boktai or Mario vs. Donkey Kong then there is no other way to play this game properly. On the handheld the game has the right resolution, the right button layout etc. Games can only feel natural on the hardware they were intended to ru...
