Re: GP's music picks

So I managed to find a zipfile a while back that someone had made with the contents of that (now pretty much assumed to be legit Aphex) Soundcloud account. It was still before the number of files posted broke 100, but all the files were created through some Soundcloud ripping utility that saved ever...

Re: New Home...

Reminder to self: there is a difference between "www.something.com" and plain "something.com". I was in Gamengai limbo until I googled Gamengai and found my way back here again. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one. I had been wondering if GP had just decided to scrap the whole sit...

Re: GP's music picks

Crapton of unreleased Aphex Twin tracks from an anonymous Soundcloud account that may or may not be RDJ himself: https://soundcloud.com/user48736353001 Some are definitely legit and have been heard/played before, and some apparently go as far back as the Hangable Auto Bulb era. Listened to the first...

Re: GP's music picks

Venturing back into the world of gainful employment means now I'll have the resources to start buying all those records I have on my backlog (though I guess I need to start paying for my health insurance as well, which takes some of the wind out of my sails). If 2014 wasn't full of enough Richard D....

Re: [PC] Steel Assault — action platformer, looking for test

Hi and welcome! I'm really liking the look of the game from the screenshots--I can definitely see the inspiration from Sunsoft's Batman, which has a fantastic visual style (and which triggered many controller-throwing bouts of frustration as a child). I'd love to try and give testing feedback, espec...

Re: The emulation thread...

So this is probably going to drag things a little off their current topic, but is there any sort of online repository that tells of a particular game's current status in MAME, as well as a historical changelog of when it was added, when the non-working bits fell into place, etc.? MAMEDB sort of does...

Re: Windows 7 & Office software etc. in Japan

I don't think they do region checks as far as where you're installing the software; just as long as you have a matching product key and disc. In fact, with the right proxying or whatever, you could probably just buy the English release of Win7 or whatever from Japan and just download the disc withou...

Re: [PS4 + Vinyl] Hohokum

Just want to clarify that this vinyl is actually only a single LP, and while it comes with a download card (and free download as well, if you order straight from the Ghostly Store), the vinyl itself is only seven tracks, a sort of "sampler" for the album. It does not, unfortunately, contai...

Re: GP's music picks

I don't know. Mine didn't come with one, but that doesn't mean anything (I usually try to save a few hundred yen buying obi-less releases when I can, anyways). No mention of it for the entry on Discogs, either. I listened to the rip I made the whole way through the other night, and the sound quality...

Re: NES RGB Kits

Thanks for that. The March Rabbit site made references to an "etim.net" but that domain was for sale. Was too lazy to Google for any other results, especially since sometimes the makers of the stuff sold in those kinds of shops have zero Web presence.

Re: NES RGB Kits

I love March Rabbit; their selection of DIY stuff and made-in-China "Will it work or won't it?" gadgets, adaptors, connectors, and what have you is just so much fun to browse through. It makes me think of how Akiba used to be about six years ago, where there were many more shops selling th...

Re: GP's music picks

So today I was taking what's probably my last stroll around Disk Union, looking for any more Japan-exclusive releases on my list that I just have to have, and I stumble across a copy of "Symphonic Suite AKIRA" for just a little over a thousand yen. The album has come up a lot recently, bot...

Re: Thread of Adventure

I'm going to give a somewhat useless answer that is neither Japanese nor console-based, but I've had a lot of fun recently with Daedalic Entertainment's Deponia series, which I picked up over the course of a few sales on GoG.com. It's a traditional, Lucasarts-style 2D point-and-click affair that man...

Re: game mags and books

It might not be quite what you want, but 100 yen shops (I'm thinking of Daiso specifically but I'm sure others carry similar stuff) sell packs of ziplock bags in various large sizes--I think A4 is the biggest, and then they go down to A5, B4 and B5, etc. Though magazines here are a bit bigger than A...

Re: GP's music picks

Eh, even if it's a complete throwaway, you got a screaming deal for the other two. So here's a question for all of you vinyl collectors in Japan: what do you do to keep your prized records safe during the summer? My apartment is really poorly insulated (even by Japanese standards) and turns into an ...

Re: GP's music picks

Akira's back, folks--don't miss it again. I guess I don't dislike the cover of this release that much--I'm actually not much of a fan of the earlier ones, to be honest.

And y'all got 6 days left to get in on the Caustic Window release on Kickstarter I posted above.

Re: Any other solder jockeys here?

Thanks for the tutorial link, going to have to try and put some of that into practice. For as much time as I spend on the computer each day, you'd think I'd know by now that if a practice exists in the world, no matter how esoteric, somebody has either written an incredibly detailed description of i...

Re: Any other solder jockeys here?

I like the idea of being able to solder to fix stuff, but I'm not terribly good at it. Not sure if it's just crappy equipment or there's some technique I'm missing, but my solder joints rarely turn out to be those beautiful little dabs that you always see. I seem to have the junkie shakes and have a...

Oh good, at first I thought you had meant you got the last Akira instead. Looking online, there's not much info on the repress; this is the best I could find: http://www.factmag.com/2014/03/21/akira-soundtrack-reissued-on-vinyl/ Seems like it was released at the end of last month and most places hav...

Huh, turns out my difficulty problem with Gradius comes from playing the PSP version with the widescreen setting, instead of the arcade screen size. I now suck on all platforms.

Re: GP's music picks

I think Wave 1 on purple vinyl sold out just a day or two after the preorders went up--by the time I decided to give it a stab, it was gone. I'd suggest jumping on the black vinyl sooner rather than later if you really want it, since his stuff generally doesn't stay in print for long. His full lengt...
