Re: GP's music picks

I hope you didn't pay too much for yours, because Ghostly just repressed it. They don't often do represses, and a lot of their older vinyl was limited to something silly like 1000, so this might be a good chance to get an extra copy before prices go nutty. Fuck... I got it quite a bit cheaper than ...

Re: Ghost in the Shell Live Action Trailer

Indeed they don't. Everything I've read has panned out exactly as I thought it would after seeing the trailers. Any GitS I've watched (which is all of 'em sans Arise) are brutally difficult in terms of material. I have to either pause and rewind or use subtitles regularly. The vocab and density of t...

As someone who has never seen a PS4 game in a store (yes, I live in Cave on Mars) do they all feature an orange band? Please tell me no.

I beat it several times, but can't quite remember. I'd have to whip out the DC and play through it. I'm sure i have a save on a VMU... somewhere.

Re: Import stores list

Anyway, my memory is kind of fuzzy so don't quote me on this, but I seem to recall him mentioning (on a certain retrogaming forum) that he "force-bids" on Y!J auctions (i.e. without asking for permission first) and deals with the fallouts (e.g. negative feedback) later. If the seller is l...

Re: GP's music picks

A rare copy of A Certain Distance by Lusine is up for a mere 27.99 EUR on Discogs. Shipping to the US is pricey, but even so, it's almost half of what I just paid for a copy, and a fraction of what it usually runs on Discogs.

Re: Nintendo Switch

yeah, the reviews of BotW seem to be pretty undeniable. We knew the major publications would rate it 10/10 and wank to it, but even hard core nerds that are not so easily amused are giving it full points. I've read a few "not impressed" reports at shmups, but most of it is beyond positive....

Re: Import stores list

Yahoo Japan's interface, like 99% of interfaces in Japan, is dated and flawed, but they have perfected the art of the auction. "It's in mint condition, but if you demand pristine condition, please refrain from bidding".

Re: Import stores list

It was high drama back then, for sure. Wish i had the English threads where they defended their actions. Last "debate" I recall was on Assembler, was one here I advocated a well-picked collection is far more impressive, and one of them argued (ad naseum) that a complete collection (IE, the...

Re: Import stores list

Yamatoku was (is?) one of the few accounts back in the day that actually had the same name, or similar enough, on both YJ and Ebay. I'm not totally sure, but they may have even said in their YJ Profile that they were resellers. Obviously the collectors (especially the Japanese ones) aren't huge on t...

Re: Nintendo Switch

Cheers for that. The screen scratching scares me... especially these days with very scratch-resistant glass. The browser, which hilariously enough was hotly debated in the thread at Shmups (wut?!) does seem pretty strange these days, but also just software so they can probably alleviate that later i...

I'm with you on that. Honestly, I have little time now, and I'm trying to do some really expensive shit, so I have to hold off. And realistically, if it's in English I might have the GF watch me play Zelda...at least a little. If it's Japanese that's not gonna happen. Also gotta think of the Mario g...

Re: On studying Japanese

Because on paper you'd be writing the cards out by hand, whereas on the computer you're either typing it or copying it from someone else? The main difference I've noticed between the two is that the former forces me to read my poor handwriting plus makes my wrist hurt (who writes regularly by hand ...

Re: On studying Japanese

As for the JLPT, I really struggle with the reading of passages. I can understand what it says, but figuring out the answer is another matter entirely. The vocab you either know of don't know, listening is extremely easy if you've lived here for a long time. パターンで学ぶ This is for L1, but I think it s...
