Re: [PS1/PS2] Backing up memory card save files to PC then back to memory card?

I have a third-party PS2-to-PS3 adaptor but it explicitly states that transferring save files from PS3 to PS2 is not possible Well, I decided to try it out and interestingly enough, it is possible. I assume it was made before the PS3 firmware update. FYI, it is a "Mayflash" brand one. Reg...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

If someone offered you an at market price offer for your entire game collection would you accept it? A price that is both reasonable and fair to you the seller as well as the buyer. The condition (or "condition") is that everything has to go. What do you value more? The freed up space and/...

Re: [PS1/PS2] Backing up memory card save files to PC then back to memory card?

More research: At launch, the device did not support transferring saved game files back to a memory card, but upon the release of the PlayStation 3 system software version 1.80, the user is now able to transfer PS1 and PS2 game saves from the PS3 directly onto a physical Memory Card via the adaptor....

Re: Japanese developed games not physically released in Japan

Your additions to the Xbox 360 list reminded me of Final Fantasy XIII. In English, FFXIII was released at the same time on PS3 and Xbox 360. However, in Japan it was a PS3-exclusive release. The Japanese Xbox 360 didn't get it until "Final Fantasy XIII International". Not sure if what warr...

Re: [PS1/PS2] Backing up memory card save files to PC then back to memory card?

i also know there were sometimes discs along with magazines where you could download saves for games onto the memorycard.. Ah yes, I have a few of those. There are the PlayStation catalogue books with save data discs (PS1, PS2 and PSP) as well as Square's "Memory Card Data Collection" wit...

Re: Are we old yet? Or: Do you still collect?

Am I old yet? I would lean more towards old than young but I guess it's relative. I don't collect as much now simply because I got most of what I needed/wanted during the past decade back when my exchange was better (relative to the USD and JPY which is mostly what I deal with) and back when prices ...

Re: Japanese developed games not released in Japan

Interesting list. Some of the more popular games there I would have assumed there to be obvious automatic Japanese releases (e.g. Super Punch-Out). As for additions to the list, Xbox-wise I had a hunch with Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame/Project Zero/Rei but it turns out there were in fact Japanese r...

[PS1/PS2] Backing up memory card save files to PC then back to memory card?

I did a bit of research but I'm still unclear whether this is possible or not and if it is, the method to do so. What I want to do is pretty simple: I would like to upload the contents of PS1/PS2 memory cards to the PC as well as download them back to the memory cards again. The second part (PC-to-M...

Re: [SFC] Gaia Gensouki/Illusion of Gaia - Mariko Ohara Interview

I bought this at around release date too. As an RPG fan those days (and in that country i.e. Australia/PAL - I'm sure other Europeans can relate), there was a severe RPG shortage. I'm fuzzy on the memories, but the only other RPGs available were Lufia/Estpolis 2, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana/S...

Re: [SFC] Gaia Gensouki/Illusion of Gaia - Mariko Ohara Interview

Although Soul Blader/Blazer, Gaia Gensouki/Illusion of Gaia, and Tenchi Souzou/Terranigma are separate games, they were developed by the same company and share similarities so they are unofficially known as the Soul series. And that is exactly the reason why Gaia Gensouki (and Tenchi Souzou) are som...

Re: The SRPG thread

Personally, I lean more towards smaller scale (in terms of amount of playable characters and map size) RPG Strategy games as opposed to larger scale ones (due to the aforementioned potential tediousness). Doubly so if it has separate battle/melee screens. Triply so if there are long loading times. S...

[SFC] Gaia Gensouki/Illusion of Gaia - Mariko Ohara Interview

On a whim, and because this is one of my favourite games of all time, and because it probably hasn't been done already, I thought I'd translate a short interview with Mariko Ohara, the writer of the Super Famicom game Gaia Gensouki (successor of Soul Blader/Blazer, predecessor of Tenchi Souzou/Terra...

Re: [DS/3DS] Monitor Output

The Controller Adapter Max is pricey and hard to find! If it produces better image quality than the solution I mentioned above, then I would consider getting it, but I like that my solution uses all Sony parts. Surely we can trust the Sony quality! Yeah, they're harder to find these days. There wer...

Re: [DS/3DS] Monitor Output

I don't have a way to capture screenshots directly from the television and taking standard photos of it isn't exactly a good alternative so I can't really help ya here. The blurriness isn't too bad I guess (on my set up at least). When it comes to text, well if we're talking about English text, then...

Back even more on topic. I didn't buy that 偽トロキャプチャ (Nisetro Capture) hardware discussed three years ago, but I did end up getting the actual official IS Nitro Capture. They say that "good comes to those who are patient", and it certainly applies here, price-wise. Well, after having used i...

Re: [FC][SMD] How to tell if a game is a reproduction?

Rockman has a carved out Capcom logo on the actual cartridge... I don't understand why or how bootleggers could go to such lengths for that game or any other Capcom MD game? But sure, I guess you could make decent profit by conning a couple of collectors like that! I just checked mine and I can con...

Re: Anime based on video games

Now that I think about it, even though I've played a few games in my time, I have very little interest in anime adaptions of them so few come immediately to mind. As GP already mentioned above, the Ys anime イース pretty good for its time I guess (pun intended), though I confess that I almost fell asle...

And since we're on the topic of Takashi Miike again, allow me to add a few to round out his list: Lesson of the Evil (2012): Reasonably entertaining, particularly if you liked Battle Royale. Izo (2014): Crazy movie and comparable to Survive Style 5+ in the sense that this film can be interpreted in ...

Fair point GP. If the reproduction looks, feels and smells the same as the original copy, then is it not, for all intents and purposes, the "real" thing? If only opening up an FC/SMD game cart was as easy as confirming the reproductive organs on a ladyboy's crotch!

We all miss those. ;) But for the record, Ninja Scroll is basically unknown in Japan... at least not as big as it was in the west. A handful of those around, actually. I didn't know that but I am not surprised that some things are a lot more popular outside Japan as opposed to inside (the Metroid f...

Your link is broken now (if it wasn't before) but I'm guessing we're referring to the recent "agreement" between Japan and Korea. I put the word agreement in quotes because it ended up, predictably enough, anything but (i.e. the Korean side are, again , claiming that Japan's apology was no...

[FC][SMD] How to tell if a game is a reproduction?

For example, consider Akumajou Dracula (the original one) for the Nintendo Famicom as shown in the photos below. How would I go about trying to determine if it's the genuine/authentic Japanese release or not? I compared it with a couple of other copies of the game and they look the same to me (e.g. ...
