I only spent like 20 minutes on it. You can tell since it doesn't read as smoothely as yours. I don't really ever translate stuff, it's good practice though. Still happy I don't have to do it as a job though. :)

I actually know a guy that translate games for a living. I know he worked on Onimusha 2, and I think Shenmue 2 even. He's freelance, but gets a lot of work. I couldn't do it. Games are a hobby...the little reselling I do is enough to turn me off. 8 hours a day of translating? No thanks.

For him, not bad I think. He's outsourced, but not by a company. He has his own clients. They hire him directly. His Japanese is pretty shit hot too. I think if someone like you or I wanted to get involved, it would be much, much harder.

I have a friend that works for a translation company. You can do much more boring things for a standard 2000 - 2500 yen per page. Material varies.

Nobody seems to have found this, but AMI has the very first flyer for Death Smiles:

That opening sequence with the ogres and the people waving at you is about as Joker Jun-y as it gets. Glad to see him back.

My only gripe so far is the switching left and right. Every crusty old hori I've played that does that just loses me right away.

Looks fantastic. The animation and alpha effects are absolutely beautiful. Port, if you please, sirs? Maybe with Arcsy's help?

Let's not go there. If history repeats itself, you'll be shelling out for the PCB to play this.

Okay, back from the show.

While this isn't an Ikeda game, it's definitely got some Ikeda-isms. A button shoots left, B button shoots right. C button is the bomb. HOlding down either A or B is a stronger shot, and you move slower. Each character has a glowing hitbox (heart-shaped) which is pretty small. Hold down A + B for the homing attack. It's pretty cool, but it takes so long to lock on you only use it for big enemies or ones that are really hard to reach.

The game is definitely 240p.

I have about 25 minutes of footage... half of which I got while waiting in the back of the line (so I got it off the LCD -- doesn't look so good) the other half is a Windia replay I got from standing right behind the guy playing, which looks much better.

Why on earth is there a poster for Oriental Legend 2 amongst all the Cave stuff??

Was it even playable at the show?

It was.

AMI does the distribution labor for both, Cave and Alta (or whichever it is).

You do realise Gaijin Punch, that for not taking video of Oriental Legend 2 I must now hurl insults at you:

DAMNIT, WHY DIDNT YOU TAKE VIDEO OF ORIENTAL LEGEND 2!

YOU SUCK FOR NOT TAKING VIDEO OF ORIENTAL LEGEND 2!

WHY DID YOU NOT DO A WRITE-UP OF ORIENTAL LEGEND 2!

YOU TOOK A PHOTO OF ILVELLO SHIT BUT NOT OF ORIENTAL LEGEND 2 STUFF?!

Heh kidding, cheers for the Deathsmiles footage.

Report

I did not see it at the show. If it was at the Cave AMI booth, it was well hidden. They had a little back area w/ 2 Death Smiles cabs, those horses, and something else, but by the time I went through the booth it was closed. They were opening it up again at 14:30. I said fuck that and left. Had no clue it was even there.

On the 3rd page of your report, in the top photo, you can spot my hair in the lower left corner. :)
I think I know who you are then. I uploaded some poor cell phone photos on my flickr-account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/zapeipaa/

Note the DDP DOJ Black Label poster.

It was. DDP DOJ BL at the 13:00 auction event. The same guy bought a Darius poster (together with another poster of another Taito game, 2012-something I think)... and Ibara Black Label poster (at the 15:00 one) for 5000 yen. I did bid on the Ibara one, but didn't want to spend too much on a poster, and I was sure the other guy would outbid me anyway.

Well, I had definitely left by then, but just barely. Had I known there would be an auction I would've stayed. I definitely would've bid on the DOJ:BL poster... and won, I'm sure...even though I probably would've had to go to an ATM. Oh, well. Next time, maybe.

Nice. Thanks. The more I see of it the more impressed I get. Animation-wise, it's unmatched.

It's No. 2 at AJ's popularity ranking for the first two days and No. 1 for the third (public) day, by the way:

Great show report GP, much appreciated. Still haven't seen the videos, as I'm on a very slow connection right now. But from the youtube stuff this game rocks all kinds of awesome.

And yeah, shame you didn't get anything on OL2. I think it's the most interesting upcoming arcade game after Deathsmiles.
