[DS] Bangaioh Tamashii / Bangai-O Spirits

Edit - Okay, I'm sick and tired of Imagevenue pulling a bait-and-switch on the images I link, and then me looking stupid for it. I won't bother using them again. Fixed. Scan is 1.2MB.

http://namakoteam.com/images/bangaioh.jpg

Treasure and ESP's countdown revealed the game, but it also surfaced in the latest Famitsu (and the site itself is pretty lame at the moment).

But anyway, a new Bangaioh! With crispy 2D graphics and tiny characters! And a stage editor! Absolute required purchase for me.

I'm betting it'll offer a choice between touchscreen and face button aiming.

That's absolutely amazing. Those 2D graphics are so crisp, the main character's skin is a beautiful multi-shaded ebony. And look at the gloss on the girl's lips! Best 2D looking game ever. I don't see anything about the touch screen or touch pen. Also... I didn't know they had Sean John brand clothing in space, or wherever Bangaioh takes place.

Yeah!!! Yet another good franchise which turns into a toy! Let's celebrate!

The link is not exactly working so:

http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/upload ... _983lo.jpg

And the count down hasn't finished yet, axctually, but the preliminary site is indeed out:

http://www.esp-web.co.jp/products/bangai-o/index.html

It's not called "Bangaioh Tamashii" at all, as is quite evident. Let's stop this trend alright.

(?)

Says so on ESP's website.

Or do you mean the "Bangai-o Spirits"?

It's a new Bangaioh. Platform is irrelevant to me, especially since it certainly looks on par with the previous versions. If you want to ignore it because it's on a portable, that's your problem.

Yeah, the countdown was based on the user's computer's internal clock and didn't account for time zones.

Inform me, then. Apparently I'm stupid, since the real title is so obvious...?

My comment was a joke, btw. jiji -- the image you first posted has nothing to do w/ anything I want to be a part of.

So you played "the previous versions" on 2'' screens?

I don't know if you're stupid nor I really care, but it's indeed quite obvious that the name is "Bangai-O Spirits" since it's what you can exactly read from the game logo. "Tamashii" into "spirits" is a very usual case of gikun, on the other hand.

Since none of the screenshots above show both screens, I'm betting that the action's going to be confined to one screen. Usually, when a publisher has some second-screen gimmick to show off, they're keen to do so. I don't detect that here, and I don't expect Treasure to make bad decisions of that variety.

Bangai-O is the official Westernized title, so I interpreted the dual title as Treasure acknowledging this from the start with a fully translated title in addition to the Japanese title. You get to pick the title you want to use in this case, it what it looks like to me.

I'm afraid I wasn't talking about the single or dual screen thing, but about screen size. But hey.

Unless Treasure had "westernized" the title as "Bangaioh" before, which I doubt, that romanization is just nothing. And even if they did, you have there the one they want for THIS title, so again "Bangaioh" is notin'.

My mistake. I missed your inches and read that as "two screens."

Recap wrote:romanization

I'm not really seeing how that relates to this, but this is obviously something you spend a lot of time thinking about, and these days I find myself less and less interested in splitting hairs. Whatever your point is, I concede it to you.

Anyway, Bangaioh. Game. Treasure! Stage editor. Missile porn! Exciting stuff.

It's still okay to talk about games here, right? Sometimes the subjects of console politics and territory politics and gamer politics get a little tiring.

Can you even take into consideration video-games and keeping apart "console politics" at the same time? !?

Sure. It's a big subject. There's lots to talk about that doesn't directly involve ergonomics or competition between console manufacturers or following the flow of money. Which isn't to say that those subjects aren't important - they are.

It's just that sometimes the usual drumbeat around these parts gets a little tiring. I think everybody's preferences regarding choice of console, control method, graphical style, etc. are well-known - can't we leave it at that? Does it need to be brought up in every thread? I think the way things are now tends to stifle discussion. It all gets a bit groupthinky for me.

Firstly - I never talked about "competition between console manufacturers or following the flow of money". I did about "ergonomics", yeah, and about "screen sizes". Those "subjects" belong to the very experience itself and without them there's indeed no experience nor game. Hardly can I keep them apart. But maybe it's just me.

I try to avoid places where I get tired, if that serves. And nope, I "can't leave it at that" and yes "it needs to be brought up in every thread", I'm afraid. It's not about telling preferences, it's all about education, you know. Getting excited for the next Treasure game being on a handheld instead of just the opposite is either not having a clue about video-games or not liking them too much. And seems you people need to remind that fact once and again. Can't see how can you get tired of something you forget with such ease.

call me Mr Fussy, but i usually like to actually play the games first before deciding whether it`s no good or not! ;)

Just so we are on the same page here, you are saying that the Japanese title will be "Bangaioh Supiiritsu" ?

Could well be the case, i guess i`ll find out tonight and let people know.

um - it IS partly about telling preferences though. Your obvious preference here , i`d assume, is for this game to be on arcade hardware with a port to a platform with low res support , is it not?

Everyone is entitled to get excited about whatever game they like, on whatever platform. I appreciate that you`re trying to "educate" people, but i think you`re preaching to people here like they are idiots - which is grossly unfair to say the least.

Oh. Charlie missing the point! What a strange thing to happen! ;)

Read: It's not about if the game will be good or not. Indeed, it's about that the game is already good for being Treasure but pretty much 80% ruined for being on a handheld. Got it? ;)

;) well you know me! missing the point as usual! ;)

but no - this time, i got you. i fully understand what you said - i`m still saying that regardless of what "could have been" and the downsides of the DS in terms of screen and the possibility that they might do something unnecessary with the controls (god forbid), i`m still open to give it a chance. 4 player support over wireless is an interesting angle for a start.

It might be rubbish, it might be brilliant, but i`m not going to predudice my opinion of the game because of what the platform its on and what platform i think it should be on instead.

Remember - that`s not to say i wouldn`t prefer this on, say, Arcade of X360 or something where it would be better suited. I`ll take what we can get and if it sells them maybe we`ll see more games come to "better" (other) platforms (it`s pretty much known that Treasure have a couple of things in the works elsewhere - not sure if Bangai-o is going to be one of them though).

Also - companies like Treasure need to bring in the money and, unfortunately (?) releasing a DS game is a license to print money, so i can see from a financial point of view why the DS makes a lot of sense (low dev cost, biggest userbase, etc)

no - come on! lets talk this one through sensibly.

I want to understand exactly what it is your getting at and what us meer mortals don`t understand! ;)

What is it you expect Treasure to do?
What do you want to see them do with their licenses?
What would make -you- happy?

i dunno - from the above quotes you selected (one was a mistake - i should have said "Arcade -OR- X360" not Arcade of X360 which is something completely different) , it looks like my suspicion is you want this on Arcade hardware. Someone could throw the same "DS" argument back at you about using limiting hardware could they not?

Make awesome console games like Gradius V, or possibly another arcade game. Much of their handheld work has stained a good franchise or just been a waste of time (Advance Guardian Heroes, Gunstar Super Heroes)

So, which is which? I didn't think Guardian Heroes was that good in the first place, and Gunstar Super Heroes, while a little on the easy side was miles better than the original in terms of control.
As for this new game -- I'm glad there are some games I'm actually interested in for DS. All that's really come out is a bunch of shovelware and some nongames. I'd been beginning to feel like I'd spent quite a bit of money to play Panel De Pon DS.

Blasphemy though it may be in this thread, I really have no qualms about the DS as a platform and am rather looking forward to the new Bangaio title. I quite enjoyed Advance Guardian Heroes and Astro Boy, and I'm willing to bank that Treasure will do a decent job on this title as well. I'd like to know what if any plans they have for the second screen, though. On the one hand, the touchscreen is woefully underutilized in most DS titles, and on the other hand, games that throw in some little touch gimmick just to have it are a bit annoying. I really don't have any problem with the second screen as map or status/info screen on RPGs and things, but I'm not entirely sure how even that would play out in Bangaio.

It's not "blasphemy", but as I said, either, you don't have a clue about video-games or you just don't like them too much. Whichever it is, it's perfectly fine, anyhow.
