The must have Super Famicom titles

Postby Gaijin Punch » Fri Jun 04, 2004 11:11 am

I don't know a whole lot about this system, so I figure this is a thread I can use some help on. A lot of what I post will be hear-say -- feel free to tell me I'm an idiot, and throw in your own suggestions.

A lot of my list isn't import-only as well. I'm not as familiar w/ a lot of the US conversions.

Cotton 100%
Seiken Densetsu 2
Seiken Densetsu 3
Kiki Kaikai: Tsukiyou Soushi
Kiki Kaikai: Nazo no Kuro Manto
Macross: Scramble Valkyrie
Makeruna! Makendou
Popful Mail
Spriggan Powered
Star Ocean
Umihara Kawase

There's probably 50 RPGs I'm missing...

I'm not 'ultra fimiliar' with SFC either, but I didn't find Skyblazer in any of your lists. It was released worldwide and developed by Sony, and is without doubt one of the best platformers ever!

It's listed under its original name, "Karura-Ou".

*takes note* Nice list, Recap. I remember you saying you didn't like Makeruna in another post -- I thought it was a decent platformer... better than some other stuff on the system. It's pretty cheap as well, so I'd pick it up.... that's me though.

Right, Front Mission is great. Could you please tell me more about Away the New Type and Earth Light? What about its sequel, Luna Strike? And Kaneko, how's G.O.D. exactly? We should think if we're speaking about "must have" games or just "interesting games". I can see some games mentioned which have better versions on other systems, which put them far of the must have cathegory. Some others are average, with a funny or interesting factor, but not really essential. If we're mentioning all the interesting, or the good games, I can attach here my full 700+ titles list.

@Recap: Mobile Suit Z Gundam is an isometric strategy game. Most of the menus are in english. Pretty straight forward to play. Gundam cross dimension 0079 is similar Earthlight is a space-war hex based strategy game with "cartoony" units Its similar to military madness(Nectaris on the PCE) Its also made by Hudsonsoft. I have Lunar strike but haven't played much of it.

The Ganbare Goemon games are a must. I also recommend the game Rendering Ranger. It was made by Manfred Trenz, the guy responsible for the Turrican series.

I think you're right Recap. G.O.D is more an interesting game than a must have. This one is a pleasant rpg however I would definitely not advise it to someone who seeks the very best games on SFC. I enjoyed that game a lot because of its childish atmosphere.

Technically, the game is a great achievement (it has some ugly sprite designs, thoe), but fails in gameplay; the password system makes your labor too easy untill you reach the last stage, which has a cheap final boss. Not too pleasant.

I tend to lump technical achievements with must-haves if the price is right. Star Ocean is one that comes to mind. I've only given it a little bit of play, but it's worth picking up on graphics alone... in my book. It's reasons like this that I'm leaving the thread open for everyone... just just lumping a bunch of crap together. Opinions are definitely a must here. :)

YOu can probably add some of these. Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2 Der Langrisser Dragon Quest series, 3 and 6 are probably my favorite. Estolis and only the first one. The puzzle and non random battles ruined the 2nd one for me. Romancing Saga series Magic Sword

Flying Hero was a cute little shooter. It's price might prevent it from going on a must-have list though... I like the colorful shooters though, personally.

Kidou Senshi Gundam Wing Endless Duel (I think that's its name, if not, close enough). I would buy that because they are cheap in Japan and go for like 50-90$ American on Ebay.

For the most part your right. Every now and than you still have stuff that will fetch prices like that. Snes might be a little different as it has a bigger market than some of the other systems.
