This is one of the most impressive Japanese PC games thats come around in a LONG time. Like 99% of Japanese PC releases its an 18+ title. Its totally freakin awesome.

Developed by Softhouse Chara, who's had a bit of a history in making various simulation/strategy games. I found some of their stuff to be decent, some mediocre, Wizards Climber easily blows them away and is their most impressive title by far though. Its essential a raising simulation game kinda like Princess Maker and such, but focuses on elements that makes it feel quite different.

You basically are the master of a chick that wants to become a great wizard (bit misleading though considering you can train her to be a straight warrior if you choose...) and start of putting her in a crappy room with a bed and not much else. Game involves sending her to do various training, getting jobs to make money etc. You can then buy various stuff to upgrade your room, as well as buy equipment for battles for when you send her on quests. The battle system is a kind of semi-realtime system where you set tactics and then watch the battle unfold.

The 2d sprite graphics are totally awesome, which makes stuff such as buying new furniture for your room a real visual treat. The battles also look great and some of the bosses are insane in how enormous they are, which is just pure awesomeness.

The website is kinda crappy cause it doesn't have any screenshots, however I VERY HIGHLY recommend you download the demo movie from the download page (First thing to download on the page) as it does a superb job of showing off everything about the game and how damn awesome it is. There is also a trial version of the game available, but trust me, you need to see the demo movie first.

Release date is the 30th of May. Cant wait to get my hands on the full version, the demo is a real tease.

The main problem I see with this (other than the porn) is that you seem to control a single character... aren't simulation games about building an army?

Huh? I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

This isn't a war simulation game... Most of the game is spent either looking at the room screen where you train the girl and go to the shops to buy new equipment, furniture etc, or in the battle screen for when you do quests, in which the game kinda becomes a dungeon crawler with you having to defeat waves of enemies before fighting the boss.

You seem to think a 'simulation' game strictly means something like Fire Emblem. What about flight sims... city building sims... etc. If anything, the 'upgrading your room/sim' aspects of Wizards Climber reminds of Western simulation/building games like Theme Hospital, while the battling aspect reminds me of standard Japanese RPG fare.

The aspects blend together perfectly in this, similar to something like Actraiser. And combined with very impressive 2D graphics, thats the reason I am incredibly impressed with this game so far.

Well, the isometric view looks a bit lonely with one character, is all I mean. Of course it could still be a fun game, but was just pointing it out.

By that logic, then any kind of action games or anything where you control a single character would also have the same problem?

Haha, but I know what your getting at. Don't be fooled by the grid, you don't actually control the movement and stuff of your character individually in this game, you just set tactics and then watch the battle automatically unfold. Its incredibly fast paced and very fun. Very action-y.

Besides, having a fair bit of empty space on the battle field allows the fucking massive bosses that the game has. Seriously I haven't been this satisfied from huge ass bosses in a 2d game since like...the Saturn days when I was a kid looking at screenshots in magazines and being amazed by the shots of stuff like Magic Knight Rayearth. It also helps when such things are purely just huge sprites, rather than done for example in the weird style of something like Odin Sphere. (obviously the graphics in Odin Sphere are much more fancy and high budget than Wizards Climber, but you get my point)

So will you be buying this one? I definitely can't, as I have no clue what my excuse would be if I got caught playing it. 720p porn with my pants around my ankles? No problem. This? Not good.

Porn in these Japanese PC games has no longer become a factor for me, all that matters is how awesome the game is. My advice to you would be to just play the game and whenever you sense a sex scene coming up just make sure no ones in the vicinity :P

The porn content in this one is incredibly sparse and light though (The fact they don't even show off any in the trailer movie at all should tell you something) But yeah, I also wouldn't be surprised if a clean console port for ps2 or something gets released somewhere down the line, as is the case with heaps of Japanese PC titles.

The Japanese PC game industry is also totally messed up in how much they charge for a game, always around 10,000Y or so. Downloading the game is always incredibly tempting, and if I do go that route then I would still most likely pick the packaged game up sometime later when the price has dropped to sane levels, because if the game turns out as awesome as its shaping up to be then I gotta own it.

The perfect excuse obviously.

And isn't it ironic that a company like Cave releases ridiculously suggestive pillow covers and stuff, yet lots of eroge companies such as the one responsible for this game have never distributed such 'fan goods'

Hahaha, Cave is too funny.

For some reason I can find old school pixelated porn quite arousing (depending on how it's done, like in CS Ware's old titles for instance), but this generic Illustrator-style type of look I just find incredibly boring. I wonder why.

Anyway, you really have a way of propagating games, Macaw. It sounds interesting, I hope someone translates it. Have you found any screenshots from the game?

Can somebody please post some screenshots from the game for the non-Windows users? I'm really curious about this.

I've only played one hentai game so far and found it pretty entertaining. The plot was similar, you had to train these maids to work at a maid cafe, which involved having them balance trays while a vibrator is grinding away at them. Then when they invariably screw up it's oshioki no jikan. O_O

My gf played a few chapters as well (but only for "anthropological research", she contends). So I think you can get away with the witch game, GP. ;)

Just like in real life... O_o

From the video this game has way too many menus to dive through. Just not my thing.

If you want an awesome sprite filled H-game, get Dual Savior Justice. The gameplay is fantastic. Theres also a porn-free PS2 version as well, but I haven't played it.

Baldr Force EXE was also really good. PC and PS2 versions were great. Just avoid the DC port. Its terrible.

I played the original Duel Savior (Was one of the people waiting for it for years...) It turned out pretty good, though the ADV part was thoroughly frustrating. It was literally about 1 minute of combat interspersed with about 2 hours of text ADV telling a pretty generic and boring story. A total shame considering the combat sections are really fun. I didn't think the battle section graphics looked all that great though. The Justice expansion provided decent combat-only modes, but they all feel quite hollow.

As for Wizards Climber, somone has uploaded the demo movie to youtube here:

And here is the only shot I could find so far on the net. It shows the room screen for when you just start out and have pretty much no furniture or anything:
