Monster World II/Wonderboy III The Dragon's Trap was another no-show in Japan (well, until the Monster World Collection, heh) and was released a few years later on the GG only. The awesome Golden Axe Warrior and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World are two more SMS games that could be mentioned. It is a shame that so many SMS games never got released in Japan because it meant they didn't have FM sound. I really hate whom ever decided to take the FM hardware out of the SMS. That was the whole POINT of the damn system in Japan!
Another I can think of would be Saturday Night Slam Masters for the MD, there was no JP release.
Didn't mention Monster World II since it was released on GG even if the resolution is different. Forgot to mention Alex Kidd Shinobi. There are plenty of games only released in the West which have FM sound including the aforementioned MWII.
Was Slam Masters Genesis really done by a Japanese team? As I recall, The Punisher port was not.
Yea, I wasn't sure about Slam Masters really. I think it was another crappy SFC port to the MD though which is why it was not all it could have been, just like SSFII. I assumed it was done in Japan but I am not sure. Sadly The Punisher certainly wasn't, and what a load of trash it is!
Are you sure MWII had FM sound? I have checked a lot of PAL SMS roms and I couldn't find any games not released in Japan with FM sound. The Wonderboy III Dragon's Trap on the Monster World collection does not have FM sound and I *think* there was a note about it not containing FM sound because it was only released overseas.
I'll say it again though, I will never understand why the FM hardware was removed from the non-Jp SMS, it was a huge mistake in my eyes. The only category the SMS used to be critised about was sound and the FM hardware was very nice from what I have heard. I think some games sound better than MD games!
