[XBLA/PSN] Jet Set Radio

Postby Gaijin Punch » Thu Feb 23, 2012 11:47 pm

English teaser on Youtube

HD revival? One would hope. I'm starting to get a little hard.

It'll be a very basic 480p port like the other DC games on XBLA.

It's not.

Real widescreen, 720p. Apart from the blocky textures, it looks great

I would buy this in a heartbeat if it ran at 60fps. I know that it won't, since that would take a lot of reworking, but it would be pretty amazing to see.

There's still a good chance I'll get the PC port for 1080p, though.

Cool... will definitely pick it up.
These 3D games can't be *that* hard to do in real widescreen, right?

Coming out next week.

Inter-review type thingy.

Review saying it's bad... I won't buy it until I play it though. Besides, seems he has more of an issue w/ the actual game than the remake.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what's up with that second review--sounds like someone who's never touched the game before and is now playing the HD version as his first experience. All the things he gripes about are part of the original; didn't see anything that compared the two.

Looking forward to the Steam version, but hoping they don't butcher it. Would be great if JSRF got some similar love, and I'd imagine the XBox->PC porting would be a lot easier than the ground-up rebuild that happened with this one.

It's supposed to be an okay port apart from the fact that it stutters every few minutes on some consoles (but not all).

Hopefully they'll be releasing a patch for it.

Was thinking of getting day 1, but ehh, will wait for the inevitable end of the year sale. 30 FPS with drops, Dreamcast quality sound; Sega should have tried harder.

I've actually got that shirt coming -- discounted, as a 'consolation prize' for the J-release not coming out any time soon. I guess I'll buy the US one and play it. It's only $9 and there's nothing else exciting me now.

It's a good port, looks great, sounds fine. Mine stutters when I unlock achievements. I'm afraid it's only reminding me why I prefer Future though. Terrible level design and frustrating physics. Still the "coolest" game ever made though.

Well, apparently PSN Amerikkka doesn't like my credit card, despite the fact it's from CitiBank US. So, I've not played it yet. My goal this week is to get all my ducks in a row on all fronts (I'm even squashing bugs for the site here!!!) so maybe I'll get this sorted.

The fact that SP actually posted on it here means it's a must by. Pretty sure I know, but is Cube the US "goth" version? That was definitely a shit change.

Cube is as she was in the US release, I think.

The Steam version is pretty good. Looks amazing in 1080p, runs well save for an odd bug (restart after you install the game and you're fine), and some fans made it possible to import graffiti from external images. The new camera control (you can look around a bit with the right stick) is welcome, though you can't use it while grinding.

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with the Steam release as well. Don't have a proper dual stick gamepad, but it seems to work surprisingly well with keyboard controls alone. Haven't figured out how to get it to recognize my Super Famicom-style gamepad; I'd expect it to work just fine since the keyboard is adequate, but who knows. The game really looks sharp on my 1280x800 display, and seems to run pretty smoothly. The only times where I had any hiccups were just after installation when I forgot I still had my laptop set to the integrated Intel graphics; switching it to the dedicated chip made it all good. Haven't run it with anti-aliasing--generally don't for most games--but it looks really slick even without. I'm looking forward to finally sitting down to finish it; forgot how great the soundtrack is.

Gonna try to replenish my wallet through VPN today, find the closest Sony employee, and kick him in the cock.

Sony won't accept any of my credit cards on either my US or JP PSN accounts. I emailed them numerous times, tried each card numerous times. None of them work. It's the dumbest thing ever (I hear it's a common problem), I would have bought way more on PSN if I could use my CC, but since I'm forced to use prepaid cards I don't buy anything on the US PSN (consequently I get all those games on the X360 instead), and I rarely buy stuff on the JP PSN.

I can only imagine how much money Sony loses every year due to this. It's almost as if they don't know what they're doing anymore.

It was region cock blocking in my case. Connected through VPN and it all worked -- didn't even have to re-enter my CC info.

Japan side will likely not take a non-J CC, regardless of your region.

Anyway, downloading now. Ironically can't play until tomorrow though.

Things I've noticed different between the Japanese DC version of De La and this version.

Characters have different names. They left them the same in De La Jet Set Radio.
Corn -> Tab
Bis -> Mew

Worth noting, looks like Bis has her name written in katakana correctly when she's challenging you. When she joins you and you use her in the stages, it's ミウ. I think Corn's is always Corn.

The map (start button mid-stage) doesn't show you the locations of the remaining red arrows.
