Update from Ancient Corp.

Postby Pretas » Mon Nov 26, 2012 7:53 pm

Ancient Corp. are the creators of The Story of Thor series and the XBLIG game Mamotte Knight, who also supported the development of Sonic 1, Bare Knuckle 2, and Actraiser 2. Their most recent release was an ant-killing casual iPad game back in 2010. They have not updated their site since then, so I was worried they had gone out of business. Surprisingly, they replied to my email very quickly.

I hope these new announcements aren't about more shitty iPad apps, but that's probably going to be the case. I really think they should have released Mamotte Knight on PC, maybe putting it on Steam through a Western publisher, even if they had to port it out of XNA. I mean, they already stuck a demo for PCs on their site. XBLIG has always been a place where games (and "massage" apps) go to die, as I'm sure Arika also learned with Jewelry Master Twinkle.

Sounds an awful lot like what happens to a lot of small companies these days: game and non-game a like. A really polite way to say "we're not quite sure what the fuck we're doing at the moment..."

I wonder what Cave would say. :)

Small bit of clarification...Ancient only worked on the Game Gear/Master System version of Sonic 1. They definitely had a major role in BKII on Megadrive's development, though.

Looks like I'll be listening to some Yuzo Koshiro at MAGFest this weekend.
