Busted controller port on PS2

Postby Gaijin Punch » Tue Aug 06, 2013 4:44 am

Pretty sure my controller socket is cocked, and the start button is not working. The other buttons do work, but as you can probably figure out, the start one is important. Is there a button test in the config? I have a limited number of games now to start w/ Player 2 to confirm.

I tried my handy controller, plus my Sigma Stick + Converter. No love. Might just get a new unit.

I'm not so handy -- what type of spray is that? I guess it would be WD40 in America. I'm not in America... :D

I had the same issue on my PS2 fat. It was the control port ribbon cable at fault. Replace that and you'll be fine. Grab a junk PS2 and strip it for spares. :)

I've got metal contact cleaner for board connectors, doubt that would work for a PS2 as it's not a spray

Aren't most of those contact cleaner sprays/pens just mostly ethyl alcohol anyway? I had some sort of contact cleaner pen back home that I'd gotten at Radio Shack a decade prior which I'm pretty sure was like 97% alcohol, with the remainder being some sort of buffering solution. Once that ran out, I think I started cleaning cartridge connectors with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, which seemed to work just fine.

Not sure how much help that will be with controller pins, though.
