[SMS] [MSX2] Aleste

Postby schadenfreude » Mon Jan 19, 2015 12:47 pm

Does anyone know which of these systems Aleste was originally developed for? English Wikipedia says the Master System, the Japanese Wikipedia page seems to imply Master System (my guess), but other sites I've checked claim the Master System game is a port from the MSX version even though the former was released several months before the latter. Though when I boot up the Master System game, it says "REPROGRAMMED SEGA" next to the copyright. My best guess is that Sega's version of the game beat Compile's original version to the market, but a confirmation from one of you Nipponese gods would be swell!

The MSX version is the original game by Compile. And also the version you should be playing.

Oh, the MSX? The Japanese Wikipedia page only mentions an MSX2 release:

    セガ・マークIII版に、2ステージを追加した全8ステージで構成されている。
    また、オープニング等でビジュアルシーンも用意されている。エフェクトが派手な分、処理落ちが多い。MSX-MUSICに初対応。
    2008年5月27日よりWiiのバーチャルコンソールで配信開始(要800Wiiポイント)。

Plus, its release date is 5 months after the Master System version.

Yes I meant MSX2. And yes it was released later, but it is THE version Compile wanted you to play. If you are used to the MSX2 game, the SMS one feels very incomplete.

That makes sense. Sega must have acquired a license to port the game and then beat Compile to the punch. I'll check out Compile's version. Thanks for the help!
