Yeah I am super hype about that one. The game actually looks really awesome with cool music too.

Do you think the board they found was originally used as a location test or what?

And is it the same Santos that went on to do the ps1 stg's?

More or less. Apparently, after Sega swallowed the Hammer Away Santos, the company's boss made a new Santos company, and that's the one that made Airgrave.

Probably location test but we are trying to track down the original devs to ask.

I put up for play at Mikado last week to attract attention.

Quite a few people have been playing it and noticing the Toaplan influence. No words from the devs yet.

So, Aquario....the sound ROMs were never found so the current data set will not boot. Apparently the sound creator doesn't get along with the ex-CEO of Westone....also, Treasure's Gunbeat....

Do they have source files for any of it?

They have everything but the sound ROMs but the game won't boot without them. It needs to be hacked to run.

Wow, so Gunbeat has surfaced now as well? May I ask how it was found? Do you know any specifics about the staff members involved? Is it in your possession at the moment?

How complete is Aquario? Was the game even ever location tested?

Also - Hammer Away is pretty decent but the movement of your helicopter in the game is super bizarre - I guarantee most people would hate the game.

Interesting, just realized the Aquario OST was actually released last year... Apparently the composer had DAT recordings of it.

Yep, it was location tested several times. This Lost Levels thread has a writeup of the various changes they made between the game's appearances. I don't know if the game is 100 percent complete, but location test stuff tends to be pretty far along.

So this is probably going to drag things a little off their current topic, but is there any sort of online repository that tells of a particular game's current status in MAME, as well as a historical changelog of when it was added, when the non-working bits fell into place, etc.? MAMEDB sort of does this, except they haven't updated past 0.147, and there's nothing about the historical changes to the games with different versions, nor is there much info about those mysterious games that seem to run just fine but which complain about not having all ROMs properly dumped when they're first launched. Plus, it would be nice to see when a dump has been superseded by a newer one which then breaks compatability with older ones.

I ask mainly because I just updated to MAME 0.155 the other day and saw several surprising changes. First, sound seemed to have been (somewhat) fixed in Toaplan titles (e.g. V-V); while the sound still seemed choppy, it wasn't dead silent as in the previous version I was using, and the game no longer throws the warning about lack of sound emulation on launch.
Second, several titles which had previously run just fine on older versions of MAMA & ShmupMAME 2.2 suddenly had missing or improper ROMs (e.g. Cave PGM titles) and would no longer run. I've had this problem off and on before with Guwange, specifically, as well--same files refusing to work from one MAME version to the next. MAMEDB gives filesizes and CRCs, but it would be nice to see WHAT specifically has changed, when, and why.

I know all of this info could probably be dredged up from changelogs and commits and whatnot, but I'm hoping for something a little more... human-readable.

Also, what's the deal with CV1000B emulation? I can't find my PS2 and the crappy Taito port of a certain Cave game, so I gave it a try in 0.155, and it seemed really playable, without many glitches or anything. When did that happen? There are no warnings of improper or semi-working emulation when I launch the game, so is it considered to be properly emulated now?
You also distaste me with passion!

HOLY FK THE LIONEX/MADOOLA VS BOARD

http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=t ... db&id=5769

For those that don't know Lionex never actually got a Famicom release.

Shou was that VS board actually released or is this a proto?

Protos, these are owned by the original programmer.

I took clips which I'll upload later.

Interesting news. Best of success getting it dumped, it should be an interesting title to compare to RayForce.

So that's why those flyers are so pricey. :)
Nice to see that event pick up some steam. I went in 2010 or so... or maybe before. Was pretty cool... probably in an even more unassuming place than this one.

haha awesome. I wonder if Lionex actually had a planned FC release or was always just intended to be exclusive to the vs system.

Also on the flyer the Lionex main character has a gun, but the game is about punching everything ;) I guess it could be a power up though...

I got to the event about 30 minutes early and there were already about 200 people in line, by the time it opened, there were about 500 including our friend, A. They're really going to have to think about changing spots next year.

In Lionex, you can get a gun power up but it doesn't last long.

Cool -- tell him I said hi. Not sure if I told him I moved. I got his email here somewhere. He is, of course, the guy that introduced me to the event. Was WAY smaller than that from the sounds of it. Like 50 people in line. But it was a part of town I had never been to, and even some of the station names were completely knew to me. Considering it was all inside the Yamanote I found it rather bizarre.

How do you rate the game? Actually looks kinda fun. Did you get to talk to the guy? Definitely cool that protos are popping up even now. I wonder if guys that hold such things are less likely to be intimidated by legal action (or whatever) as time passes.

Honestly, the game looked incredibly boring. I was more interested in the more difficult Madoola.

No one is interested in sharing still....
