Misc. games and parts interest check

Postby Magic Knight » Tue Jul 24, 2012 7:34 am

Hey guys,

I'm now unemployed and free to dispose of stuff I no longer need at my leisure. So if anyone is interested in the following let me know. I haven't taken pictures or decided prices yet, if anyone wants the stuff I'll do that. I'll be putting a lot up on Yahoo Auctions so anything that doesn't sell here will probably go on there.

These are now sold.

I've started my big sell off on Yahoo tonight, I hope it goes well. I can get unemployment benefit for three months but the extra cash from games sales will keep me going.

Looks like I missed out on that Splatterhouse. That's what I get for procrastinating. XD Looks like a proxy is already bidding on it, good luck with the sale! Make those french pay every cent they got. :)

Yeah, I'm afraid I couldn't wait any longer on this stuff, though GFront putting up 8000 PCBs stopped me there for the moment. I have many X68000 games up though, go nuts. The prices will come down if they don't sell first time, so keep an eye out.

I went to Hello Work about my benefits, apparently my former employer said that I left of my own accord... I nearly went bananas, as it was they who wouldn't renew my contract. So now I won't get any benefits unti January. On Monday one of my old schools called me up looking for me to go in to do a day's work because my replacement isn't good enough... that's what happens when you replace a qualified teacher of 12 years experience with someone who's never taught a day in his life. So I said no. He's being paid good money, make him do it.

My Splatter House bidder is definitely a proxy, is it? I was selling on a forum for about six hours before I got fed up with the derisory offers, "Can you pay shipping?" questions and the inevitable "I had 20 games shipping from Japan for $30, how come you're so expensive?", "That game sold for $50 last week on ebay, how come yours is $60?" and so on.

Again no hard feelings here, hope you make a bundle, your stuff is always mint. ;) I noticed your auctions are all "won't ship abroad." I can't blame you. On forums I only do trades cause international buyers either try to rip you off, or just whine about shipping prices. And yes, that's a proxy account for sure (french i believe). But at least the proxy accounts separate you from moron buyer hehe.

Good luck on the Hello Work bullshit, and finding a new job. Kid's schools are where the money is at here. Adult schools just don't pay squat anymore sadly.

What forum? I usually don't get too much stupid shit on shmups. The only one people do ask me about is my shipping of consoles, as Play Asia can ship those fuckers REALLY cheaply.

Semi OT: How is Alien Syndrome on the x68000? If I was as passionate about games now as I was when I was adding shit tons of content to the site that would be the next section I made.

First, I'm off back down to Hello Work again today with a statement I wrote to explain my situation. My unemployment record actually says "Voluntary resignation without a legitimate reason". What the hell? My contract expired and they got someone else!

Ok, auctions. These are my best X68000 packages if you're interested Super Deadite. I kept the best manuals, postcards etc. for these ones. I'm mostly selling because I have the arcade PCBs, and if some guy wants Arkanoid on X68000 for 3,000 yen then I say go nuts. Prices have gone very high since I bought my games.

Alien Syndrome is an excellent conversion, top quality as always. There's nothing extra, no MIDI or hidden options as far as I know. Again I have the PCB so I decided it might as well go.

The forum I initially tried selling on was a UK arcade forum, because I want pounds sterling in my UK bank account, or euro in my Irish one. So first guy comes along, offers £70 for £91 worth of games, and wants shipping included. It was going to be a heavy box so I just said forget it. It just got worse from there.

Shmups? No, I gave up on that. Guys would beat me up on price, get the item and put it back up for sale on the same forum for double the price. Or boast about how cheaply they had gotten the game.

Anyway, overseas buyers going through proxies are great. If the game turns up and there's a tiny dent in the box or something they can't complain to me! I used to get some right idiots on ebay.

I believe they have pro-bono lawyers, btw. I would HIGHLY recommend going to your employer (in person) and just saying that you'll get a lawyer to unfuck that mess if they don't. I've heard of employers trying to fuck people out of their last paycheck for "not giving enough notice" but they always lose when the lawyers come out.

Yeah, figured. A good PCB to have. Really love that one. I will attempt the 2-ALL one day. I remember 2-6 being painfully difficult though.

Hehe -- a few people here bought your games. In fact, I was able to track down your address when the Earthquake happened b/c one of your games was sitting on my bookshelf. Oh, fun times.

Good luck w/ the employment bullshit. It looks like you're pretty dedicated to the area. I'd have suggested relocation, but Tokyo kinda sucks too for job hunting.

Ok, if you guys see anything you want let me know, I will be going on a YAJ rampage. Since I've not much to do (I've been to Hello Work) here are some pictures of the stuff I've got to shift to make room.

I'll probably sell my Megadrive games on the far right (Splatter House series, Super Shinobi etc.). On the far left is a Robot Monsters control panel with the Hall Effect joystick. That's NOT for sale, but the Road Blasters control panel behind it probably is, once I test it again. Just peeking out on the left is my AV7000, I'll sell that once I get another. Actually in this picture most of it will be kept. How do you like my desk - Anpanman tissues, wad of cash, phone I don't use, tea I have yet to drink.
Image

Um, bit of a mess.
Image

I'll probably sell my Guwange and Dangun Feveron boards. I don't know what the value is these days though. Spent a fortune getting Guwange fixed. That's an Atari STE on the right, a Japanese version just sold last night on YAJ. I might keep that actually. You can see how I've just thrown the expensive and rare trackball PCBs from SDI on top of it. Under the STE is a Konami 573 motherboard.
Image

Taito Type X machine with Spica Adventure. Someone sold the game last night on YAJ, so I might sell them together, just too big. To the right of that is a NAOMI motherboard and Capcom converter. Also, on the left are Deco Cassette games. I swear on my life I will eventually get around to that JLPT N1 kanji book...
Image

At the very back is my Vectrex with carry case. I also want to sell the Batronix ROM programmer, Microvision, Chun Li PS2 controller (mint! L@@K! etc.). The PCB is a broken Mappy.
Image

I'm going for an art deco look here. Expensive X68000 monitor under four boxes, Space Harrier boardset in a precarious position on top, record collection I can't listen to because my amp is broken, it's all there.

I'm afraid not. Actually my singles aren't in those pictures, they're in the other half of the room I didn't photograph. This is my guest bedroom by the way...

Ha, if only. I've had my father-in-law stay (though that was in the sitting room) but besides him it's just been women who have no interest whatsoever in this stuff.

I have a great story about the apartment above me though. There was a girl of 26 living there until recently, and she asked my wife and I to go up for dinner before she left. Her fiance was there too, and he's the same age as me. My wife got onto talking about games where the names are written in kanji, and I tried to guess which it was (we got talking about games because he likes enduro racing, and amazingly that very day I had received Enduro Racer boards). I mentioned Kiki Kaikai and he remembered it from his childhood. I said I had the Famicom Disk and the PCB in my apartment. He had no idea what I was talking about, so I brought it up to show him.

He then tried to remember the other games he liked from the 80's and he came up with Double Dragon as one he had great memories of. I said that I had that too and HE NEARLY EXPLODED. Seriously, I thought he was going to spontaneously combust. So I brought that up with my AV7000 and so on and plugged it in and he thought he was in heaven.

So after the excitement we had to go, and they moved away, but I saw him this week in the hospital he works in, as I have problems with my joints and he's a specialist.

Funny memories... I told him I have Space Harrier, After Burner, all the expensive, rare, difficult to get running on a JAMMA setup games. His attitude was "Yeah, Space Harrier, that was OK, but DOUBLE DRAGON!!!! I can't believe it! After all these years!"

Yeah, always cool to share the hobbies with the commoners. Most of my friends never "got it" whenever I busted out old games though, so that hasn't happened to me too often. It is an interesting feeling when a Japanese realizes you're more of a dork about his pop culture than he is though. Definitely been there!

I'll say. I was telling my wife and the girl upstairs about the kanji on the Double Dragon title screen. They had no idea how to read them. Just this evening though, my wife recognised the Ghouls'n Ghosts music from the kitchen, apparently it's very cute music...

I sold quite a nice amount on YAJ, mostly doubles of my PCBs, so enough to keep me going. I've just applied to a job in Tokyo, though I don't think I can afford to live down there. I needed to apply anyway just for the Hello Work people.

You can live in Chiba or Saitama affordably (and your renumeration should be much more here than in Miyagi) but yes, you will have to sacrifice space, which I can already tell from your photos is going to be quite painful!

I suggested Saitama or somewhere else near there to my wife - easy to take the Shinkansen back north. She'd like to live in Yokyohama, ha ha ha... Space will be a problem though, so PCBs or kimono... I guess there go the kimono.

Of course I may not even get an interview, or the pay might be abysmal. As it happens, I have an extra year extension on my apartment here, so I can still stay for free for another 20 months. Obviously what's great about it is that I don't have to worry about hurrying out if I were to move, since I'm not losing anything by being here, and my wife still has a job locally.

How far do you have to go to find schools? The upside of Tokyo is, the population. It may not be great pay, but you can always find hourly work teaching. The problem is, for business stuff, it's usually starting by 8AM (maybe 7AM) or after 6PM. Very little in between.

Yeah, it's not a teaching job I've applied for, I wouldn't ever really look for that kind of work in Tokyo, it's just too expensive to live there. On the other hand, there's very little up here, almost nothing for an English speaker. In Hello Work they told me I have to go in and use their machines to look for jobs, I just told them I'm better off at home on the Internet. They said that's ok and I just have to prove that I've looked for something. So now that I've applied that takes care of this month.

G-Front have thousands of PCBs on YAJ now, so I'll have to wait until they're gone to list some more.

Yeah, I'm pretty much bare to be honest, it's just a case of getting rid of the last few games and the hardware.
