This was posted in the latest issue of Metropolis. Generally I only read The Small Print and am done with it, but I found myself eating alone, so kept going. For those that remember 1999, the internet was pretty void of anything remotely like Yahoo Maps or Google Maps. Japan was pretty much void of the internet anyway. This site hosted by Yahoo has Flash-ized 2009 maps against 1999 maps of the metropolitan area.
There's no "real image" view obviously, as that shit wasn't around back then. If you can read Japanese, it's actually pretty interesting. Just thumbing around Shibuya, I see (and remember) that there was no QFront (it was actually in construction for years) which houses that big ass Starbucks at Scramble Intersection, Don Quijote, or of course Yamada Denki's Labi which just opened in the Spring.
