They were playing this on a loop in the lobby of the cinema where I saw Inception. I'm way out of the anime loop, but a mindless, action-packed kick back to the late 80's early 90's anime sounds great to me.

Wow just watched the trailer, the art is incredible. The director must be a big fan of Western animations like Heavy Metal and the sci-fi French comics.

Comes out in the west first? That's unpossible!

Or are you blowing someone in the movie industry?

Close. I'm seeing the European premier at a film festival here. ;)

Damn, that's definitely got a neat aesthetic going for it.

And Asano Tadanobu doing anime voicework? That's a first, isn't it?

Saw it last night. Really, really fun movie! Needless to say, visual style, characters and plot are totally over the top. Everything has a great 70s feel to it, reminding me a bit of Lupin III or Metal Hurlant.
Also, the character design has an uncanny resemblence to Great Mahou Daisakusen. ;)

I saw it tonight. One of the best animations I've seen in a long time. Personally the character design reminded me first of Batrider :)

The whole thing though definitely had American comic inspiration all over it though, that Volton dude was practically Captain America.

Haha, it was part of some animation festival thing here, shown only in a tiny ghetto cinema.

Apparently this is will be playing in San Francisco the same opening weekend as Japan. So I'll be sure to check it out.

I also noticed a lot of similarities to Great Mahou art designs, including the voice at the end of the trailer being the same one used in the game!

I think you're onto something as far as the last announcer sounds. I'll keep my reservations until Solo-Bang makes a cameo.

Didn't digest much if anything from the trailers, I also don't dig the extreme style to a great degree either. If it shows up locally, perhaps it should get a shot.

Just saw this today with the wife, and she really liked it too. It wasn't as extreme as I thought it would be (as in violent), but was plenty extreme in the visuals and great nonetheless. Also looks like they the first 8 minutes of the movie were put up on youtube today.

Stupid forum won't let me post links due to low post count LOL. Search youtube for "Redline: 8 minutes"

I saw it at the same festival as CIT in August. The entire movie had an incredible velocity written all over it: story, animation, sound. So much action and weird events in only one movie (including an extraordinarily weird and funny allusion to Akira) is rare, I really recommend watching it, very good & straight entertainment.

No. I'm just assuming it's out of the theatres....or close.
Well, it's got one show time in Shinjuku. Might try to go on the weekend.

Maybe I'll go too. Is it showing at the new mall near the park?

No clue where that is. Shinjuku Wald 9 is a good place for me... I can cycle there in about 20 minutes or so.
