A bit late but I recently watched it. Like you, I don't really have any interest in Godzilla/Gojira movies or indeed, monster movies in general, but Shin Godzilla gets a big tick from me. There was only one reason I decided to give it a shot: the director Hideaki Anno (of Evangelion fame). As I get older, I increasingly find action movies boring (e.g. you see one car chase scene, you've seen them all) but Shin Godzilla offers more than just urban destruction (of which it has pretty good special effects by Asian movie standards). Without spoiling anything, I do like this Godzilla's special attacks visuals.

Don't know if I will bother now that I missed the cinema screening, but thanks for your impressions layzee!

Haven't watched a lot of film lately. I did see Ugetsu monogatari (1953 romantic horror drama by Mizoguchi, another classic) and Dare mo shiranai (Kore-eda, 2004) a little while back though. Highly recommended, both of them!

Oh and I also watched Koroshi no rakuin (Branded to Kill) and Koruto wa ore no pasupooto (A Colt is my Passport) some time last year. Both are 1967 yakuza cult movies. Fun, stylish, and bad-ass... worth watching, but not exactly "Great" cinema.
