Dork out: Game Goals...

Postby Gaijin Punch » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:06 am

Kaneda's fault.

Things I will start on within a year:

Futari BL God Mode: 3.5 bil clear
Batrider: Advanced Course
Crack Down (not Sega's best, but it's fun, and I've gotten close).
Guevara (recently acquired)
An old scrolling platformer (either Chiki Chiki Boys or Cadash)

...and note that I still play Alien Syndrome regularly thinking I might one day clear the 2nd loop.

Cyvern 2-ALL please.
Anyone know how long Outzone & Fixeight are? Great games, but I have a hard time investing time into something that seems painfull long and hard.

They're Toaplan so I'm assuming they're endless (but if you just mean per loop, I think it's 7 stages for Outzone...? Dunno about Fixeight). At any rate, they both counterstop. Outzone is funner, easier, and prettier than the ugly and clunky (yet strangely compelling) Fixeight.

Cyvern, huh? Just for you, GP, I'll give it a shot.

A game I've not given since I've not had the time to give it the attention it deserves. Maybe I'll go for the first loop one day.

Fixeight is clunky, eh? Didn't know that. Assumed it was more or less just an extension of Outzone. It's one Toaplan game I've never ever seen in action.

Yea Fixeight is a bit of a mess IMO. I think it's appeal is in the variety of the character types but it just doesn't play as smooth as Outzone. The difficulty rises and drops like the tides and at points you're kind of boned if you didn't pick the right character and shot type.

Coincidentally, HEY now has Outzone, Fixeight and Cyvern all running next to each other.

Raiden Fighters Jet

Current: 90 million
Goal: 120+ million + ALL

Battle Garegga

Current: 5 million
Goal: D Score or better

Kaneda has a good list of a few I would like to get back into:

Batsugun Special Version (99,9m)
DoDonPachi (2-ALL)
Outzone
Strikers 1999

Coincidentally, HEY now has Outzone, Fixeight and Cyvern all running next to each other.

Lucky! :D

If most of us have gotten 700+ million (w/o that much effort I must say) certainly another westerner has broken a billion, no?

My first clear took about 5 credits. My 750 mil score or whatever I have took about 4 days or so after I played 1.0 a bit.

With my confidence riding high after a quick dismantling of Cyvern, I will return to Gunbird 2 with my head held high. Hopefully I will make it at least a few days before I burn out again.

RE: Futari BL Original mode:
No one in the West has higher than my pair of 810mil scores (one w/ each character), as far as anyone knows.

Original is a weird one, getting 700‾800mil doesn't take much effort, but you need to be at a whole different level to reach 1+bil, and really a good score isn't until you reach 1.5bil or so. Remember the WRs are in the 3.7bil range. I really don't like BL's Original mode, as you have to tap like crazy to get the 1+bil scores (and by tap, I mean tap the joystick, as you have to nudge into the gems just as they are spawned to get the maximum value from them, and you have to do this CONSTANTLY, all the while dodging bullets too). Not fun.

I'm confused by this, none of the superplays or runs I've witnessed in person (that I can recall) did a nudging move. Do you mean it's the best method to grab all of the gems or do the point values drop the longer they're on the screen or something?

All the high scoring replays use it. And yeah, when the gems first spawn, for a split second, they add more to your counter than normally. So you have to nudge your character over each batch of gems instead of just being close and absorbing them automatically. For example look at this:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3729730

He gets around 27k on the counter after the first stage. Notice how he moves in a slightly jerky way (little jerky movements towards gems as he does the stage pattern) throughout most of the stage to maximize the gem values - these are the "nudges" I'm talking about. Without this, he'd score about 50% less (counter around 18‾20k). Those repeated, short little taps on the joystick make my wrist sore after a run.

This should keep me busy for a while:

The Punisher (no deaths)
Final Fight (1CC)
X-Multiply (two loops)
Gradius II (at least four loops)
Gokujou Parodius (1CC, including the special stage)

Batsugun Special- 1cc
Final Fight-1cc
Aliens Vs. Predator- 1cc
Metal slug 4- 1cc
X-men- 1cc
The simpsons- 1cc

I'd also like to get a chance at playing Outzone this year.

Pretty modest goals at the moment.

1CC Undeadline (MegaDrive)
1CC Thunder Force AC (Saturn)
5,000,000 in Battle Garegga with Shatter Star (Saturn)
8,000,000 in Raiden 3 with Player 2

Thundercade 1CC

It's still a ways off from a counterstop, but I looped Outzone 4 times before getting munched at the start of the 5th round with a score of 5.5 million. I'm satisfied with this and don't feel like making the 3-4 hour run necessary for 10 million so I'll move on to the next goal from my revised list: Metal Slug 3.

Nice 1. I'd like to get a proper Toaplan clear under my belt, but V-V and Dogyuun aren't going to happen. Maybe I'll give this one a whirl, as I quite like it.

My new year's resolutions:

"In 2010, this is the shit I plan to do.

FIRST LOOP DDP

ALL CLEAR Futari MANIAC

FIRST LOOP Progear

FIRST LOOP Under Defeat, make progress into SECOND

FIRST LOOP at least one Psikyo game (between Strikers II&III, Gunbird 2, Dragon Blaze, and Zero Gunner 2)

Either get a network adapter or a DOJ PCB or a J360+BLEX and LOOP THE MOTHERFUCKER"

Goals, goals, goals.

Cleared the first loop of DDP, like, twenty days ago. I recorded it for god knows what reason. I think I was drinking. The replay is up on my 'blog' if anyone wants to watch some alcohol-influenced DDPing. Can't post links yet, unfortunately.

Futari Maniac is harder than Original and Ultra. I've probably put seven to ten goddamn hours into it and still no clear.

I've been in the mood for getting back into a console game (since all I do is arcade stuff) and have decided to tackle the Castlevania series. My goal is to beat every traditional 2D Castlevania game (meaning no 3D platformers or the SotN style games, except for maybe SotN because it rules so hard).

I'm going to try to stick to one credit and will do the Japan region releases. I was thinking of doing the various ports, but the first game is on mobile phones and PC compilations and shit so I think I'll just stick to the Famicom version.
