1 credit only, default settings. Stupid bats get really annoying on loop 3.

Code: Select all

I'm seeing a version N and a version P for this game--is there any practical difference in scoring or difficulty?

I'm playing on my board, which I think is version P. I don't emulate, so I can't tell you about version N. The English versions are totally broken though, avoid. :yuck:

Oh, and I made it to the 4th loop today. It gets really insane on loop 4. 6 or more bats on the screen at all times. Strangely fun though.

Version P it is, then. How difficult are the boards to come across?

Congratulations. This game is the hardest Dracula right? That part at the end where you're hanging on by your toes to a crumbling bridge looks crazy.

Then English versions are really hard, especially version M. Honestly though the Japanese versions are quite beatable with practice. Pure memorizer (like every other game in the series) really. You just need to learn how to deal with every enemy and hazard in the game. The later loops are all about bat dodging skills and heart management.

The real difficult part is there are is 1 sure unavoidable hit. Also some of the animation is so poor that you get hit by invisible attacks (like Frankensteins chain). Also the collision detection is quite unfair on some enemies. Still though, you learn how to deal with it :)

Sadly the board is quite rare. English boards are typically $100-200 usually. JP boards (only ones worth owning) are very pricey. Currently Try has it listed for 42,000yen. (GFront wants 90,000yen :o )

The PS2 port is playable. But it's got blurry filters you can't disable. Also has a few annoying emulation bugs sadly.

J boards are pricey and rarely pop up. Even at Mak they're 50,000 - 70,000 (if memory serves).

Fuck me, this is tough in that "20+ years ago" way. Gonna be a bit before I'm posting any decent scores.

There was a PS2 port?

w00t! I counter-stopped Haunted Castle on Stage 40. Once you go over 999,000. Your score actually drops back down to 980,000!
It's bugged and 1 million can't be reached! Hahaha. Well I'm done with this game.
